Vanilla’s Training Log 5-25-14

It’s hard to believe that the unofficial start to summer is here!  This week was much better for me training-wise.  I’m starting to feel much stronger during my workouts thanks to an increase in iron supplement.  The next big race (Boulder 70.3) is about 3 weeks away!

Sunday:  Colfax Marathon Relay with the Newton Corporate Team.  My leg was 3.7 miles, and I had plans to push it hard.  But, most of my leg was hilly, and racing the day before wore out my legs.  Ended up running an average pace of 7:24/mile.  Later in the afternoon, headed out for a 40 mile ride.

Monday:  Lift in the morning; bike commute to work, 1,000 swim in the evening.

Tuesday:  TRACK!  Finally got up the nerve to hit the track for 8×200.  Goal was 45-46, and I was pleased starting at 46 and hitting 44 consecutively with a 43!  I’m hopeful there is some speed hiding in these tired ironman legs that still wants to come out.  My second run was an easy 3.5 miles in the afternoon.

Wednesday:  Run 5.50 to work.  It was stormy and rainy most of the day, so my evening ride was forced inside.

Thursday:  6 miles with 4 @ 28:16.  Pretty excited that the last mile was 6:55, and I didn’t feel dizzy or flat.  Another rainy night = another night on the trainer!

Friday:  Weights + Easy 3 miles with some surges.  Quick 1,000 in the pool later in the afternoon before heading off to a graduation party.

Saturday:  Beautiful spring morning for a brick!  50 miles followed by 5 ish run, which felt very smooth.  I’m hopeful for the 70.3 in 3 weeks!

Weekly Totals:

Running:  35.50 miles  Yay!

Biking:  97.5 miles + 1:45 spin

Swimming:  2,000 yards (some, but not enough 3 weeks out from a half ironman)

Weights:  2 hours
