Dill’s Utah Week 3 Training Log

A small miracle occurred this week.  The stars aligned (mr dill didn’t travel and it wasn’t 0 degrees) and I was able to run EVERY SINGLE run outside. I did not step on my treadmill once!

Monday: Rest Day

Tuesday: Buti Yoga in the a.m. followed by a 2 mile warm up, 10 x 2:00 @5k/10K effort/2:00 easy cooled down to get to 9 miles total (8:08 pace overall).  I didn’t really look at the watch, it was cold and windy and I just went by feel.  My legs were feeling tired on the first few, but I finished just fine.  I listened to my book during this run again. I was surprised that I was motivated to run fast while listening to someone talk, but I was.  As I was about to finish my last fast 2:00 minutes I came up behind a couple of girls from the local cross country team (the team was running in my neighborhood).  I knew that I would go blowing by them, breathing all hard, just to slow way down right in front of them.  So rather than scare them and look like a total weirdo I went darting down a side street that was the opposite way from my house, thus causing me to run 9 miles, rather than my planned 8.

Wednesday: Group Pub run, 6 miles @9:12 pace

Thursday: I would normally have taken a rest day, but I knew I’d have trouble getting a run in Saturday with family stuff.  I headed out into the cold and wind again while listening to my book.  I felt eh, I was done with the wind. 8 miles @ 8:55 pace

Friday: Restorative TRX Yoga in the a.m.  I had decided I would do my long run this afternoon so that I didn’t have it hanging over my head all weekend. The wind seemed to be even worse today than it had been the previous days. I waited till later in the day, when it was a bit warmer, waited while I recharged my garmin that had drained itself completely in the drawer, then grabbed the sequel to the book I’ve been listening to and headed out.  My plan was to just get a run in and if I could knock out my 14 miler.  The wind seemed to battle me from all directions, but it was a decent run.  I didn’t look at my watch and I just ran. I probably should have run  slower, but based on feel I ended up at an 8:32 pace overall.

Saturday: rest day

Sunday: Met my friend Amie for a late morning run at the Towpath.  It was warm enough for capris and short sleeves… and mud!  We ran 8 miles with 8 by :20 second stride/1:40 easy.  The mud mad that a little tricky, but it was fun. The strides felt good, but I felt sluggish the rest of the miles.

Total mileage: 45

I'm a running mom of two little girls, who is busy balancing life, work and marathon training. It's always training season for me because I'm on a quest to run a marathon in every state, while constantly striving to be the best runner I can be. Running has led me to some great adventures and I always have a good story to share!

  1. Nice week and always a great perk when you can nail a week of all outdoor runs this time of year. Makes it feel a little more bearable as we await the return of spring if it ever comes.
