Spearmint’s Training Log 4/2/2017

Hello! Hope everyone is having a great week so far. Last week was a race week for me so it was pretty light and easy.

Here’s what went down…

Monday: 3.5 miles in the morning/10 miles in the evening followed by core

Tuesday: 4 miles in the morning/Last pre-race workout in the evening! 12×400 relaxed followed by a k at race pace and some strides. As per usual with my pre-race workouts, I convinced myself that I felt like complete trash and then couldn’t even get down to 10k race pace for ONE k. Obviously that was slightly (extremely) terrifying since I knew I would have to run faster than that for 10ks in a row in just 3 days. However, I think I have finally learned that my pre-race workouts always feel horrible and are not indicative of my fitness.

Mid-race math is not my strength so I made a split cheat-sheet just in case

Wednesday: 2 mile shakeout in the morning/8 miles in the evening

Thursday: Flew to San Francisco and did 7.5 miles and strides at the Stanford’s track.

Friday: 2 mile shakeout in the morning then watched about 7 hours of HGTV until I had to leave for the race. I was confident that no matter how the race went, I could still call it a good day since I got to watch tv in bed for the majority of it.

Saturday: 45 min shuffle before my flight home.

Sunday: 90 min long run/shuffle in DC while watching the Cherry Blossom 10 miler and dodging hoards of iPhone photographers taking selfies with the cherry blossom trees.

Total: 80.5

I'm an aspiring elite runner from the DC/Northern VA area. I love road racing and am currently training for a half marathon in April. I write about attempting to balance a career with running and enjoying the process of training and improving!
