Whew! My first week of my spring marathon training is under my belt. It was a very busy week. I moved the workouts around to accommodate my travel schedule, and I had social plans or last-minute Christmas baking almost every evening. (Read: no wiggle room for pushing runs to after work!) And with the first day of winter on Friday, I had to be flexible due to snow and ice. My mileage fell a bit short due to the long run that just wouldn’t happen, but all in all, it was a good training week. I have 17 weeks to go, so I’m not too worried about it!
Monday – Tempo run in the pouring rain. Buckets. I can’t emphasize enough how much it was raining. I laid in bed listening to it, but I knew I had no other time to do this workout, so I embraced the rain and was thankful it wasn’t snow! I did 2 repeats of 1.5 miles at tempo; with the warm up and cool down, I had 7 miles for the day.
Tuesday – Easy 4 miles at 9:44 pace.
Wednesday – Speed day! I had intervals on tap, and did 2 repeats of 2 minutes at 90-95% effort and 2 repeats of 4 minutes at 75-85% effort. 4.4 miles total for the day.
Thursday – Rest
Friday– I planned to do my long run of 12 miles today, but a short while into this snowy run, I realized that I needed to be flexible and switch things up. Between snow and ice and unpredictable drivers, a long run just wasn’t happening! I did 3 miles at 10:58 pace.
Saturday – Attempt #2 at my long run. I was out of town visiting family and hoped to run on a local bike path. I only managed 1.3 outside before heading inside to a gym’s indoor track and running 4.7 more. It was one of those days where the snow had melted the day before and then frozen overnight. I probably could have managed the entire remainder indoors, but my attempt at running outside, getting to the gym and so on was taking so long that I just didn’t want to take any more time away from my family time. (How timely considering my post on running while traveling and being flexible, right?) Plus, it was also boring as all get out. 6 miles at 9:53 pace.
Sunday – Rest
Total – 24.5 miles
