So I ran a 10 mile race last weekend! Before we get to that, I thought it might be good to give y’all a sense of what I’ve been up to, and not just in the big picture, existential life updates kinda way, but really, truly what’s been going on with my training. Let’s dive right in, shall we?
Week of March 11
Monday – easy solo 3 miler (10:34)
Tuesday – 1 mi WU, fartlek of 6 x (3 min on, 1:30 off), 1 mi CD (5 miles total)
My last workout before the upcoming race! I averaged 8:38 pace for the speed sections, and my last two repeats were the fastest, including 8:19 pace for the last one. Definitely a big confidence booster going into Taper Town!
Wednesday – Rest
Thursday – easy 4 (10:13) followed by 4 strides. Suuuuuper windy. Later in the day, some parts of town recorded up to 70 MPH winds!
Friday – cross train
Met my friend Tara at the Y to lift and do ab work for 30ish minutes. After she left, I rowed 1,000 meters, setting a new PR for me (6:16).
Saturday – 6 mile long run (9:57)/1 hour yoga
This day fit together perfectly, with one part running village power and one part magical scheduling. One of my friends reached out early in the week to say that she had 20 miles and needed company – preferably somewhere flat. A few of us responded, and she came up with a route and a relay schedule, making sure she was never alone. I took the early bird shift (6:30 AM holla!), which meant I had some downtime before heading to a 10:30 AM yoga class at the Y. After yoga, I came home, did a quick outfit change while my hubs made me a smoothie. We’re starting outreach event season at work, so I worked a two-hour shift at our table at a local spring festival and made it home just in time to watch the Cats play. It was a little bit exhausting, but I did it. Whew!
Sunday – 1 hour yoga
Total: 18 miles running, 2 hours yoga, 1 gym day
Week of March 18
Monday – 4 miles (10:04). Ran the first 3 with one of my go-to morning running friends.
Tuesday – Easy 3 miles (10:01) + 4 strides. My left shoulder felt a little cranky, but I was like, whatevs! Massage later! Sadly, mid-morning I got a text that my massage therapist needed to reschedule.
Wednesday – 45 minutes yoga. This was a new-to-me yoga class at a local brewery; it’s donations-based, pay-as-you-can and donations go to various charities. Not as athletic as my usual weekday yoga class, but a great stretch given my weird shoulder tightness. Plus, it was a good excuse to catch up with my friend Em over a drink afterwards.
Thursday – Easy 2 mile shake out in the AM (10:35). Still felt a little off. Luckily, I was able to make an ART appointment for the evening.
Friday – Rest
Saturday – Race Day!! Race recap coming soon. 11.2 miles total
Sunday – 1 hour yoga/4 mi recovery pace (10:20) + a massage!
Total: 24.2 miles running, 1 hour 45 minutes yoga
