26 weeks! I had a sitter for a Tuesday night: track night in my world. I hadn’t been to a workout in weeks and I missed my teammates and friends. So I packed up the Karhu Flows and headed down to the track. By then I’d raced a couple of races but hadn’t done any kind of speed work in about three months. The workout for the day was a mile time trial (an informal race) followed by full recovery and then 3 x 800. There were a wide range of runners at the track that night, so I decided I’d try the mile and see how it went. I’d jump in with the slowest people and then pick it up from there after a lap and a half if I felt like it.
Coach gave us the go and we were off and when we came through in 97 (I was second to last!) I was worried it wouldn’t go well. But just as I got to the halfway of lap number two I started to settle in and I picked it up (well, effort, maybe not actual pace). I came through the half in 3:16. I felt pretty good. It felt crazy fast, but not crazy hard. I wasn’t redlining and it felt kinda good to push a little. So I kept right on at it and kept my focus on the runner ahead of me. I tried to reel him in, but this pregnant lady’s fast gears are out of commission and I held steady running a 6:32! That was a good 30 seconds faster than I had hoped. And much to my surprise I felt great doing the 800’s, feeling better and better as they went. I ran 3:21, 3:14 and 3:14. Not bad for six months pregnant and no speed work in months!
Otherwise, my week was really busy. I had three doctor appointments and the farmers market and with all that I only managed 4 runs. But you know what? I’m not going to complain. I’ll take it!
Mon: 3.25 crammed in while pushing the stroller with flat tires. My aching triceps! Doctor appointment #1.
Tue: 8.5 with track.
Wed: Off Doctor appointment #2.
Thu: 6 easy with the stroller and Ginger’s BF James.
Fri: Off – Doctor appointment #3.
Sat: Off – Farmers market.
Sun: 12.5 averaged around 8:50. Ran the first 10 with a great friend who I’ve missed running with! And then added on 2.5. This one left me hobbling the rest of the day. My hammy that was just a little sore after Tuesday was REALLY sore last night. Feels pretty darn good today (Monday) though!
