I had a really solid week! It helped that I had company on almost every run. That never happens to me. It was awesome and it really made a big difference in my mood and motivation. I think I need to hustle up some more early runners to try to make this more of a thing for me.
I also had to do a little modification this week. First, our track workout got rained out. Normally, I like running in the rain, but when I say rained out I mean, it was insanity. The rain was horizontal and there was like an inch of water all the way around the track. I was slipping and sliding. Coach called it and I’m glad he did since my hip and achilles were both really sore the next day, I’m sure from the slipping. I foam rolled and stretched and they’re both much better. I only did 4 of the 6 1000’s. I thought I might not feel as beat up after the workout as usual, but I was wrong!
I also decided to add some mileage midweek so I’d have the option of taking Saturday off. It was my older daughter’s 4th birthday and I have a policy to not run on the days we celebrate kids’ birthdays (or Christmas). I think it’s important to have rules like this because some things really are more important than running – like our families! And it helps keep running in perspective.
Mon: 8 early and easy with no watch.
Tue: 6.75 with rained out track workout. Workout was 6 x 1000 (6:45) with 2:30 jog rest + 2 x 400 (< 83). I felt good and ran 6:40, 6:46, 6:50, 6:53. As the storm rolled in I got slower and slower dealing with the wind and the wet track. My teammates somehow managed to nail theirs – studs! I tried to adjust my shoes to see if that would help, but it didn’t.
Wed: early a.m. 7 early miles with KN! She was such a trooper to get to my house by 6 so we could get in some early miles together. later a.m. 3.25 elliptical. Kids wanted to go to the Y so I ellitpicaled and got in my 2nd core workout of the week.
Thu: 10.25 with the single stroller and JS and KN again! Did 5 x :20 strides at the end.
Fri: 11 miles with 8 mile tempo (goal 6:50) in 6:57, 6:50, 6:32, 6:48, 6:44, 6:44, 6:37, 6:43. Was up at 4:55 and running by 5:20. I think my tempos in the early morning are going to be slow starting, but better as I go along. I will try to be patient with myself and just expect this to happen instead of getting discouraged when I’m feeling like I’m sprinting and barely cracking 7:00.
Sat: off for the My Little Pony extravaganza!
Sun: 14 with the first 10 with KN right at 7:30 pace and then we each had different push mile paces (hers way faster). Mine were a struggle. We started running at 9:00 and normally I start a long run at least an hour earlier. I didn’t eat much and was STARVING. Took a gel, but still felt bonkish. Plus it was really hot and humid (82 at the end). I am shocked I was able to hang in there as well as I did! 7:13, 7:15, 7:09, 6:47. When I finished I stood there and could not breathe. It took a minute. Seriously! Haha. But I did and survived 🙂
Total: 57 running and 3.25 elliptical
