Salty’s Training Log – 10.5.14

This was one great week for me. I am so happy I could cry. This one made me so proud of myself for sticking it out through all the setbacks. And I feel like I can taste my old fitness and feel confident I will be logging PRs before I know it. There’s really not much more to say than that!


Mon: 6 early and easy miles.

Tue: 10.5 with track. Workout was 4 x 400 (goal: 88); 2 x 800 (goal 2:54); 4 x 400 (goal: 86); 2 x 800 (goal:2:54) (60s between 400 reps, 90s between 800 reps and jog 400 between sets). Right out the gate I felt pretty good. I went a little too fast for the first set and was worried I might die, but I finished very strong side by side with a couple of my teammates which made it extra sweet. This was my first workout all under 5:50 pace in 3 years!

4 x 400: 84, 84, 86, 85

2 x 800: 2:53, 2:52

Wed: 7 easy pushing the single stroller followed by a 45:00 strength training class.

Thu: 8.5 moderate pushing the single stroller (plan said miles at 7:15, but since I had the stroller I knew trying to hit that would be frustrating, so I just upped the intensity and rolled with it) including 5 x :20 strides. It’s always fun to do those with my daughter trying to keep up! Felt ok, but adductors were really tight from strength class.

Fri: 11 with tempo. I was sweating this tempo. I have done 2 real tempos since mid-July, one 4 miler (avg 6:42 pace) and one 5 miler (avg 6:47 pace). The goal was: 7 continuous with 3 @ 6:50, 6:45, 6:40, 6:35, 6:30. I was lucky to line up my mom to watch the kids in the early evening so I didn’t have to do this at 5:30 a.m. in the dark.  Hit the park with the Garmin and ran back and forth on the parkway.  It was a nice evening until mile 1.5 when a huge wind gust blew through and then BOOM! RAIN! Wowza! I got drenched!!! It poured the rest of the evening.Ran: 6:43, 6:40, 6:47, 6:43, 6:39, 6:37, 6:29. The last mile had the biggest hills in it and I had to WORK for that, but overall I am over the moon about this one! After my heel was killing me wear my wet shoes wore the skin off of it and my SI joint was bugging the rest of the weekend, probably from trying not to slip on the wet roads.

Sat: 6 early and easy before the farmers market. Busted out the tights!

Sun: 14.1 averaging 7:37. My legs were pretty cranky the second half, but got it done and had fun! Another chilly morning, but really beautiful and so fallish.

Total: 63.1

    1. Haha. I feel like I’ve said that so many times in the past couple of years only to eat my words by some or other new setback. I hope it sticks this time!
