Salty’s Training – 11.20.16

Back on track with 50 again this week after two rough weeks in a row. ย Although we had a couple of wonderfully warm days at the end of last week, the weather is turning. The days are grayer, the windy gustier, and the chills chillier. Any time I’ve tried to train through this season, I’ve become injured or on the verge of injury. Not sure why that is, but I know better now and won’t push it. I’ll race a Turkey Trot or another 5k and then pack it in for the season, and just run when I feel like it through the New Year before going back to base building. I ran with a good friend on Wednesday who asked me what I’m training for. Good question.

Today’s the day I became a mom eight years ago. My son’s birthday kicks off my crazy season when hard training becomes counterproductive, but I wouldn’t change a thing.

Mon: 9 easy on trails with Jasmine!

Tue: 8 with tempo: 2 x 2 with 2:00 jog. Finally a good solid tempo! 6:57, 7:00; 6:55, 6:50.

Wed: 9 easy on trails with my friend Marisa.

Thu: 6 easy back and forth in front of my house enjoying the warm sun!

Fri: 8 with fartlek: 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1 with half time jog rest. HOT!

Sat: off

Sun: 10 easy from home – half on roads and half on trails. COLD!

Total: 50

Salty Running boss and mother of 3 little ones with PRs of 3:10:15 (26.2), 1:25:59 (13.1) and 18:15 (5k). I love to write about running culture, mental training, and fitting in a serious running habit with the rest of a busy life.

  1. I think that not having set in stone training this time of year is one of the best times to get that “down time”. Not stressing with the changing season. holiday rush and all of that jazz. Enjoy the “Run whatever” and look forward to seeing what you choose for what’s next when the time comes!

  2. 50 AND an off day! Nice work. Good plan for the rest of the year โ€” it’s definitely a time of year that running should be something you’re excited to do, not just another thing on the to-do list.

  3. Happy birthday, Salty sprog #1! Enjoy the season of ‘run whatever’; I feel like this isn’t a time of year when anyone needs to stress about hitting targets, what with the festive rush.
