Raspberry’s Training Log – 2.5.17

A break in the rain meant my legs got to see daylight!

I missed posting my log last week because a busy weekend led to a bad cold and zapped my energy. But it was a recovery week, so I didn’t have much to write about. This week saw a big jump in mileage, and today’s long run felt harder than I expected it to be. I took it much slower than planned and it knocked me on my ass for the rest of the day. I have 11 weeks to go until my 50k, so things are ramping up although this training plan doesn’t go over 56 miles per week. A lot can happen in 11 weeks, so I don’t think that today is indicative of how the rest of the training cycle will go. Plus this week saw two workouts, speed and hills, in one week for the first time. Cold + increased mileage + increased intensity = tired. I’m not going to overthink it. Yet.

1/22-1/28- Recovery Week

Monday – 1 hour Power Sculpt class

Tuesday – 4 miles steady at the track

Wednesday – 1 hour Power Sculpt class

Thursday – 5 miles trails

Friday – 3 miles trails

Saturday – 6 miles

Sunday – 2 hour snowshoe adventure with a brand new cold! Side note: I’m a little tired of getting wet on my runs, but all the rain California is getting means amazing things for the mountains. Snow is over 175% of average and besides that this means good news for our drought, the snow is so soft and fluffy and perfect!

Amazing, fluffy, powdery goodness!

Total: 18 miles

Monday – nothing, zip, zilch, home with a cold

Tuesday – 5 miles easy at the track, not ready for speedwork yet

Wednesday – ran my intervals on the roads, mostly flat. 15 minute warm-up, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 minute intervals with equal time recovery, 20 minute cool-down. 7.5 miles total.

Thursday – 5 miles easy on the treadmill and 1 hour Power Sculpt class

Friday – Hill repeats: 15 minute warm-up, 2, 4, 6, 4, 2 minute push uphill with equal time recovery, 20 minute cool-down. 7 miles total.

Saturday – 6 miles with 2 mile warm-up, 3 miles steady, 1 mile cool-down

Sunday – 16 mile trail run. This run sucked. I felt slow and my legs were lead. The jump in mileage, plus hill repeats on Friday caught up to me and it wasn’t pretty.

Total: 47 miles, 2 classes, 3,750 feet. Also, I finished my first ever 30-day butt and push-up challenge! This is a big deal for me because I never have the motivation to finish those (I may have picked a beginner level challenge, but that’s beside the point).
