Olive’s Half Marathon Training Log-7.31.17

This week, I finished teaching group fitness classes while getting in a solid 51 miles. I’m really going to miss teaching group fitness, but I think my body needs the break. I know I have days where I’m sore from teaching or just not as recovered as I should be before a workout, so I’m curious to see what will happen to my running when I’m not teaching. My next goal race (the Plano Balloon Festival Half Marathon) is on September 23, and I’m hoping I’ll be in shape to PR (which would be under 1:31.16).

Monday– 8 easy miles, 8:33 pace. Later I taught 1 strength class.

Tuesday-Treadmill tempo. 2.5 mile warmup, 3.5 miles at 6:50 pace, 2 cooldown, 6x:20 strides. Total of 8 miles at 7:46 pace. Later I took a Hatha Yoga class, which I’ve never taken before. I thought it was a great class and a form of yoga I probably need more than the more intense vinyasa I’m used to.

Wednesday-Treadmill recovery, 8 miles at 8:26 pace. Later I taught a spin class.

Thursday-Track day! Workout was 2×200 in 45, 3×1600 in 6:05, 2×200 in 39. Actual paces were 44, 44, 6:03, 6:03, 6:04, 39, 40. The last 1600 about killed me, but I knew I’d done so well all day that I didn’t want to blow up in the last one. I was really happy with how this went. Seeing my workout paces go down is motivating, and I’m hopeful that these times will pay off with a PR in the fall or winter! Later I taught a strength class.

Friday-8 miles easy and then 6x:20 strides. 8:04 average pace, including the strides.

I feel pretty, oh so pretty…actually I think I just found a gnat in my belly button.

Saturday-13 miles easy, 8:16 pace, and then taught 2 classes. I enjoy the Saturday classes but I’m really glad to be able to run a long run and then relax, as opposed to jumping into the shower and then running out the door!

  1. I’ve always been amazed by you, Chicory and others who teach classes on top of their own running and workouts! I feel like it would be so much fun but also could definitely see it tiring me out more! I think stepping back from that for a while will be a nice change for you but also you know you can get in good strength training on your own to keep up with it. Killer track workout btw, love the consistency with the paces!
