Mint’s Training Log – 12.30.12

My hilarious boys giving us a wake up surprise on Christmas morning.

As anticipated, I continued increasing my mileage a bit this week.  However, all week I found myself stuck in something of a rut motivation-wise.   I know it is caused by the cold, the snow, the ice, my disdain for the treadmill and my general lack of fitness.  It doesn’t help that I don’t really have any races on the calendar and am still base-building.  It also really doesn’t help that I tweaked my back last week, had a bad allergic reaction to my cat (crazy puffy red eyes)  and felt like a mess in general.  Meh.

But the good news is that I sucked it up and got all of my miles in.  Even better, I felt like a million bucks after my long run today.  Oh yeah, that’s why I love this sport so much!  😉  The best news is that this week was my last week of general base-building. Next week I get to start adding in speedy stuff, which is fun and a nice change in routine.  I think the increased mileage and quality workouts are just the ticket I need.

So as I leave 2012, I am hoping to shed my slacking and breathe in a big dose of running motivation.  Let’s hope it works.

Monday I couldn’t bring myself to run on the treadmill, so I ran outside.  The footing was a bit sketchy in places, but since I was able to run in the daylight, it was fine.  6.2 miles (8:58 pace).  I also did arm weights and core work.

Tuesday was Christmas and I had a rest day.  We always hang out with our neighbors on Christmas Eve until midnight to ring in Christmas.  Then of course our kids are up bright and early.  So this girl was tired after all the presents were unwrapped.  Add to that, I had to start cooking a big feast for my whole family.  A good rest day it was.

Wednesday I had to run on the treadmill and it was pure torture.  I was so bored it took every ounce of willpower I had not to call it quits.  I got in exactly 50 minutes and not a second more.  5.7 miles (8:50 pace).

Thursday I ran outside again.  It was cold, but the footing was relatively decent.  10.3 miles (8:46 pace).

Friday I ran outside again.  It was snowing while I was out there, but the footing wasn’t bad and it was actually fun to run in the snow.  6.8 miles (8:50 pace).

Saturday was my shortest run of the week.  5.5 miles (8:53 pace).

Sunday my son had a wrestling tournament all day so I couldn’t get out for my long run until 3:00 pm.  It is SO hard for me to get motivated later in the day.  It was cold and I simply didn’t want to run.  But I dragged myself out there and ended up having a great run.  12 miles (8:55 pace).   I also did arm weights.

Total: 46.5 miles

Year to date mileage: 2072.9

Happy holidays!
