Ginger’s Training Log – 8-12-12

The miles continue to build and get faster. Week 3 of 4 at or around 50 miles is now in the books and I’m feeling pretty darn good. The running by feel approach seems to be contributing to that and sticking to one workout a week and one long run seems to be helping me hit my times a lot easier than before.

Tuesday’s track session featured another modified workout by James’s coach. His workout was 7 x 1000. I did 5 x 1000 but three of those were full 1000s at about 7:06 pace. The remaining two 1000s were split up into two sets of 2 x 400, 1 x 200. My pace on the 400s were a lot faster (6:30 down to 6:15) and my 200s were probably a little too fast (5:24 pace) but I was feeling snappy on the faster stuff.

On Saturday, we had wedding number 3 of 4 for the year. It was so nice to celebrate with friends, many of whom were in from out of town. But James and I had a 10 mile race the following morning so we kept the crazies to a minimum. Race report to follow in the coming weeks!

Faces of runners who could not drink at a wedding. Despite the stares, it was a good time! And the lack of drinking paid off in a win for James and a PR for me!

Sunday: 2 hours and 6 minute long run in the rain. The rain served as my shower for the day.

Monday: 55 minutes easy at night.

Tuesday: 50 minutes including track workout.

Wednesday: 60 minutes that didn’t feel good until about 45 minutes into the run.

Thursday: 60 minutes that didn’t feel good at all!

Friday: 45 minutes easy in the morning.

Saturday: 25 minutes easy, used as a mini taper before Sunday’s race.

Total: 7 hours and 1 minute of running

I write about mindfulness, mental health, and the professional sport of running with the occasional poking fun at the sport. When I am not running, I'm either helping people as a counselor or trying to make them laugh as an amateur open mic comedian.
