Ginger’s Training Log – 4-22-12

I’m happy to report that my achilles is healed. The heel is healed! But (yeah, there’s always a but) I did something to my other foot last Saturday and the pain keeps getting worse. I saw Dr. Keyes on Wednesday and after he worked on the right side, he took a look at my left foot. He said it was a pretty commonย occurrenceย to have extreme pain on the top of the foot because it is so close to nerves and bones, more than likely due to a freak strain to the muscle during the 5k. He then forewarned me that the next five minutes were going to suck. Yeah, he was right. Later that night, I attempted a little ladder of a workout at the track but got stuck at the top and had to walk down.

The next day I walked 5 miles and ran 2 miles with James, who is recovering from hernia surgery. We were happily going slow, feeling both of our bodies healing. On Friday, I thought that if I took it slow again, I could run a good 5 miles or so. But I was only able to manage 2, as the pain never went away and I could feel my left leg cramping up due to compensation.

So, here I am again. But I’m confident that this little mishap will be gone soon, as it didn’t take too long for the heel to heal. I’m actually very happy that the achilles pain is gone, even if it means I have to feel some pain elsewhere. I’m going to take it day by day and more than likely just walk/jog with my on-the-mend beau. Be sure to look out for my new post this week that focuses on active rest!

Friday: 2 miles at the track.

  1. Ginger, you have such a serene look on your face while watching surgery videos. I’m impressed! Sorry your foot is bummed out. Can’t wait until we’re both up for some hot running dates. Soon!

  2. Yes! Very soon, Salty. Good luck on Thursday, Greg! My issue with the achilles was a lot of scar tissue in the calf and plantar fascia area that needed to be worked out. We’ll keep an eye out on your progress!
