Fill in the Blank: Diary of a _____ Runner

Question mark
Now that my butt is better, what do I write about? Image via Wikipedia.

I am so excited to report that I am officially definitely absolutely off the injured list! That means there will be no more whining or posts about the anatomy of the butt, at least for a while.ย  I can’t very well keep posting under the Diary of an Injured Runner category, now can I? I need something new to write about. Pepper‘s got the comeback thing under control, so that’s out. After days and days of racking my brain I think I have finally come up with something to fill in the blank. *Drum Roll*

Are you as shocked as I was when I saw that? This was soooo not on my radar screen. I’ve been Snookied!

So now you know why I’ve been a little secretive about my training for the past couple of weeks. I’ve been dying to share this big news, but as I’m sure you all understand it’s a little dicey to talk about this in the beginning. I’ve been hemming and hawing about what to do: to reveal before my first midwife appointment and ultrasound or not to reveal. So many things can go wrong in early pregnancy. I am somewhat comforted by the fact that I feel awful and totally absolutely pregnant now. But it’s still a tough call! Plus, it took a while for the news to sink in. Even now as I type this post I’m in a bit of disbelief.

I didn’t even think about the possibility that I could be pregnant until I was about 6 weeks along and I felt a little breathless and nauseous at the end of 10 @ 7:37 pace. I NEVER could do that when I was pregnant the last two times. I got huffy at 8:30 pace when I was pregnant at 4 weeks the other times! I’m at that point now, though most days.

By the 3rd pregnancy the bump happens pretty fast. After my run on Saturday. 7 weeks?

Both times I became pregnant before I was at a different point with running: I took some time off from training with my son when I became pregnant with him and wasn’t running much. With my daughter I found out as I resumed running after a week off post-marathon.

This time I was just feeling back in shape and excited to get back to training. But now that I’ve had some time for reality to sink in I am really excited. Nervous, but excited. As I mentioned above, this is early to be delivering the big news but I want to share the entire running while pregnant experience with you. And that includes overcoming horrible fatigue and nausea to get out the door and decisions about whether to keep doing a little speed work and how many miles to run.

Pregnancy number 3 is sure to be an adventure and I’m excited to share it with you!

Any other pregnant runners in the hizzouse?

  1. I’m so excited too! I’m an auntie again! Can you imagine how fun it will be for this kid to read your articles someday?

  2. Yow, big news! Definitely not here. Oh my gosh, I can’t even imagine it. But very excited to follow your progress and someday we’ll have to get those Nathans together for a play date!

    1. Chelle, I’m not sure I can even imagine this! Still a bit in shock. This was not in the 2012 plan!! But it’s a happy accident. Play date would be great! Hope you’re doing well and adjusting to your job, etc!

  3. Wow, didn’t see that one coming, congratulations! Our 3rd was an absolute shock but the best thing that ever happened to us. Everything seems easier with the third, even though you are outnumbered. I think we just learned not to stress over every little detail anymore.

    1. I didn’t see it coming either! I had a weird feeling when I was talking about my 2012 goals and sure enough a few days later it all made sense. I’m looking forward to the third. It will be crazy, but it will be awesome!

  4. CONGRATS! So excited for you and Mike! Let me tell you my running has greatly suffered, you’re huffing and puffing at 7:30 while I’m huffing at puffing at 10+! You’re picture is so cute too, I think you have a bigger belly then me already!

    1. Thanks, Tara! I show crazy early. I have all three times, but it seems to get worse the more kids I have ๐Ÿ™‚ When are you due?
