Dill’s Utah Marathon Training Log – Week 7

Well folks, this week started off ok and then the train derailed again.  We traveled home from Florida on Monday, and my husband had to go out of town right away which always makes getting my runs in tricky.  It was a busy week getting back into the routine and there was simply a lot going on.

Tuesday: 2 mile warm up with 4 by 2 mile at 8:05 pace.  1-2 mile cool down. First set (7:59,7:58) 2 min jog (7:55,7:56) 2 min jog (7:47,7:51) 2 min jog (7:58,7:58) cool down to 12 total. Buti yoga in the a.m.

Wednesday: I got home late and was pretty tired and my right foot has been hurting a bit, so I took a rest day.  I hate to take my rest days too early in the week, but I just couldn’t get on the treadmill that late at night.

Thursday: My daughter’s ice skating team got to skate at the Lake Erie Monster’s Hockey Game tonight. This meant we didn’t get home till late again and I finished up my 7 mile run at 10:45 at night.

Friday: I had a busy day, and wanted to get my run done in the morning, but when 5:30 a.m. came, I just could not drag my body back on to that treadmill.  I had an appointment in the morning to get an abnormal/precancerous thing removed from my arm.  The doc told me it was pre-melanoma which I wasn’t expecting and then drew on my arm the area she would need to remove.  It was a lot bigger than I had expected.  After she was finished I said “I suppose you are going to tell me I can’t run today.  She told me that I was not to run today or for the next 5 days.

The incision on my arm is a little over 2 inches long and worse looking than I expected, so so far I have listened to the doctor and not run.  I may cheat tomorrow and run, but I will will definitely cheat on Tuesday and run.  I very rarely miss a long run during a training cycle, but I have never missed 2 long runs in a single cycle.  These past 3 weeks have been disappointing.  I’m hoping all these missed runs won’t come back to bite me, but we’ll see.

Total Miles: 19

Books listened to: “The Siren” by Kiera Cass.  This is a young adult fictional romance about a girl who gets turned into a siren for a 100 years when her family’s ship is sunk by Sirens.  It’s written for 14 year olds and I am 38.  None the less I’m committed now and need to know how it ends. Hopefully I’ll get into something more age appropriate this week.

I'm a running mom of two little girls, who is busy balancing life, work and marathon training. It's always training season for me because I'm on a quest to run a marathon in every state, while constantly striving to be the best runner I can be. Running has led me to some great adventures and I always have a good story to share!
