Comment of the Week – 7.26.2014

COTW badgeAt the risk of defaulting to the two most generic topics ever (weather and time), can you believe it is almost August?  Although school is starting soon which I’m not quite ready for, it’s also getting closer to the fall racing season.  It makes the end of summer so much more palatable. I’m even looking forward to it.

Plus, the end of summer means the time of beautiful running weather is returning as well.  And as my training for next summer’s run begins to ramp up in September, I’m looking forward to running in crisp, fall mornings. It’s still summer now, though, and it’s Saturday which means it’s time to find out who won the comment of the week award this week! This week, the winner was Sarah, who commented on Lemongrass’s post “When Easy’s Not Easy, Make Your Easy Runs More Fun!

One trick that I can contribute is to add or multiply the numbers on a mailbox as you run by. I turn it into a game. I have to successfully come up with the answer before I reach the next mailbox. The only caveat is that you need to do this in a residential area. I suck at math, so I have fun with this one.

We love new ideas to carry us through runs that maybe we need a little motivational help with!

I began running track when I was 12, took a break from running in college, and kicked up my training in my mid-20s once I set a goal of finishing a marathon. I achieved my goal and completed three marathons (NYC, Philadelphia, and Hartford). Since the birth of my daughter in 2011, I’ve stuck to shorter runs and races as I try to balance being a wife, mother, high school English teacher, and runner.

I gave birth to my son two months ago, and I am just getting back into running. While I don’t have any races on the calendar, I want to thank the Salty Running community for motivating me to get on the treadmill and/or hit the trail.

Thank you all for making Salty Running such a great community of runners! And because we want to support you, let us know:

Do you have a fall race (or races)?  What race and when?
