Comment of the Week – 3.15.14

Our usual Comment of the Week maven, Cilantro is busy with school. (You better be studying, woman!) So, I put aside my Saturday night plans (or not because I have 3 small children and therefore no social life – and even more importantly, I have a long run in the morning) to write it up, myself.

While I’m here, I thought maybe I’d take the time to catch you up on something completely awesome. Remember, Rocket of the bun hugger post fame? Wondering where she’s been? She’s been coming around to the fact that she’s due with twins this summer! Yep, Rocket’s all with children and stuff. You can follow along with her pregnancy and subsequent return to running world domination at her personal blog.

Oh and in case you missed it, we launched the Salty Store, where you can purchase our snazzy limited edition forest green “Get Chicked” tech tee. It’s your chance to show off your Salty love, support the site and look great doing it. Quantities are limited so pick one up before we run out of your size!

All righty. Time to announce this week’s big winner! You ready?

Sometimes, a reader communicates to us on Twitter or Facebook or in some other way than commenting on a post and it moves us so much that we get all crazy and nominate that communication for COTW. This is one of those weeks. This week’s winner is Patti who didn’t comment on a post, but sent us this comment about Salty Running in general via our email:

Salty and the Salty Running Team,
I recently found your website and had to let you all know what a great thing you have going on here! There is not a day that has gone by since first reading your site that I have not found something helpful here. I have been running in one form or another (I really don’t know what that means) since I was 15-16 years old and your insights into running (all of you) just warm my soul. From reading about single-motherhood to run vs. walk to what to eat, besides Gu or gels while out on a long run to “never wear a fuel belt”!
I am 55 years old (really 54 but 55 sounds better and 28 to my grandkids) and have run alone most of my life. I love running! You girls are so fortunate to share with each other your experiences. I love that you’re intense and love your running, but yet earthy, supportive and REAL for each other.
Thank you so much for what you have shared!!

Here’s a little more about Patti in her own words.

I am a mother of three adult daughters and gramPatti to three beautiful children. I started running after reading Aerobics by Dr. Kenneth Cooper…such an odd 15 year old…I would run 2 miles before high school and it just went from there. I never ran track or CC or participated in any sports but I am an athlete.  I like long runs. I have completed two Marathons and am trying to make good on a third DNF. I am currently training to run Big Sur. I’m not a speedy runner, but hope to be speedier one day. In the words of Diana Nyad “Never, ever give up.”
I truly do love running. What draws me to your site is that I have been through many of the situations I have read about on the blogs and running has been the constant. My professional life is somewhat stressful and running, again, gets me ready for my day.
By the way, the explanation of the snail….love it! because I’m tough. I’ve had to adapt over the years…and you got it – the running blogosphere needed to get chicked!!
I’ve been chicked!!
We’ve been Patti’d! Thanks so much for making our day, Patti and we hope your training for Big Sur continues to go swimmingly!
Happy running to you and all our readers this week!

Salty Running boss and mother of 3 little ones with PRs of 3:10:15 (26.2), 1:25:59 (13.1) and 18:15 (5k). I love to write about running culture, mental training, and fitting in a serious running habit with the rest of a busy life.
