It’s week 3 of my commitment to healing-not-running and I don’t know how much longer I can stand it. A lot of my friends ran the Brooklyn Half on Saturday and I was so jealous I could TASTE it. The half is my race! The Brooklyn Half is the 3rd biggest NYRR race of the year! And if I’d run my PR time from the New York Half I would have been the 4th woman on my awesome team. It’s killing me, this slow running, this constant rest, this lack of movement. You can see from my week that I’m not doing a very good job at taking time off:
Sunday: My knee felt like poo. I did Ab Ripper X (God I love that video) and spent a half hour stretching.
Monday: I took a nice long walk around my neighborhood. I didn’t really calculate how long or how far.
Tuesday: I had a great run/walk up to Fort Greene and back, 3.6 miles. I focused on my form a lot, concentrating on lifting my knees, which I’m bad at. I got home and did more Ab Ripper X. I also spent about 45 minutes doing some static exercises to help strengthen my quads and hips.
Wednesday: I helped out with a NYCRuns 5k, part of the Riverside Park Summer Series. I rode my bike all the way uptown, then around at the race, totaling about 16 miles. I rode on to meet some friends afterward too but didn’t really calculate how far. I forgot how much fun riding a bike can be!
Thursday: After my long bike ride I took a day off. I did some more static exercises and worked on the Salty Running navigation system a lot, since I wanted to roll it out for Salty’s Birthday. Like our new look?
Friday: 5.2 miles of walk-run goodness in Prospect Park. For the top half I stuck to the Run 2/walk 1 but I was feeling good so after the halfway mark I upped it to Run 3/walk 1. And I Smile-Trained!
Saturday: I made brunch for a bunch of my pals who ran the Brooklyn Half (Congratulations to all of you! I love you to pieces!) and then went on an awesome pub crawl. When I arrived home (hammered) I felt bad about drinking a lot and not working out so I did another round of Ab Ripper X.
Okay, so I guess I’m not doing so poorly, especially considering I didn’t run very much, but I still couldn’t help but work out in at least some tiny way every day! I also RICEd at least once a day every day, so that’s good too!
