Marathon Training Week 8

This is how I felt this week.

Monday: Run

a.m. 5 miles (7:45)

p.m. 5 miles (7:55)

I felt so-so on these runs. I was still not recovered from Sat/Sun runs.

arms, abs

Tuesday: off

I had planned on speed work but I took the day completely off. I had lots of driving and was just too tired. Sometimes I need a day to recharge and just be fat and lazy…it does the body good!

Wednesday: Tempoish Run

4 miles (8:11)

6 miles (5 quicker, 1 cool down)

Again I was tired but made myself do this run. I did 4 solo warm up miles and then the bf and I ran in the dark around 7 pm. The five miles were negative split, starting at a 7:33 mile and ending at 6:42, with the last 3 under 7 minute pace. Not super fast for a shorter run, but it was dark and I was tired.

push ups, planks

Thursday: Off

I had a 6am-10:30pm day. This was my planned day off because of my schedule-driving between 3 states and 3 jobs. Yes, I could have forgone the excuses and snuck in a few miles somewhere random. But I didn’t have time to shower and didn’t want to be gross. I do not like to take 2 days off during the week when I am marathon training but it is not the end of the world.

Friday: Run

9 miles (8:20ish pace)

I felt like crap. I did 3 miles, took a break, then did 6 more, for a total of 9. My legs were heavy and my body was tired.

Saturday: Long Run

20 miles (7:58)

I finally got a 20 miler in!  Hamstring felt tight at the beginning but got better. I ran with a friend and felt better than the previous day. I am a week behind on my long run schedule but my body was not up for a pace run anyway. Next week I will try the pace 18 (9 easy, 9 hard).

Sunday: Run

8.3 miles (8:09 pace)

This was a nice group run-the first mile was a warm up going up stairs and stuff at around a 10 min pace. The rest were just under 8. I felt ok-my body started to recover thanks to naps on Friday and Saturday.

Total miles: 57

Again I fell short of my mileage goal. I love running but work and sleep definitely come first! I ran slower this week as I had planned. I was ok with skipping speed since I did some quicker stuff the last few weeks and had some lingering hamstring/IT pain. This pain is also caused by my driving-it has gotten better since I have not driven those distances in the past few days. As an out, I am considering this a recovery week from speed work and the race. I have a lighter work week next week-I will get back on track!

I am a dedicated runner and classical musician. I am currently chasing a sub-3 hour marathon (3:00:38 PR). I often feel like the underdog going up against "serious" runners-I took up running after college, I do not have a typical "runner's body type", and I am mostly self-coached. I travel a lot to perform with different orchestras and run when I can, where I can. I love to (over) eat and that is my number one motivation for running! Follow me as I chase my goals!
