Bergamot’s Training Log – 03.20.16

Good day, Salties!

After a couple weeks of weird, random health problems, I’m back in action! To elaborate, at the end of February I fell off a snowboard in Andorra and twisted my knee. There is still some residual pain when I squat! Then when I recovered from that, my body decided it was time to have some kidney stones. I have hadย a condition since childhood that puts me at risk for kidney stones every day. Luckily, I don’t have them every day! But I haven’t had them for years, and they were aggressive this go-round. Here’s to hoping they don’t form again! I’m almost up to speed, no pun intended, on stress-fracture recovery! I am now allowed to run up to 40 minutes at my regular pace. Unfortunately I’ve been off for so long that my “regular” pace now feels a little forced, so I’m taking it easy. This week I’ll graduate to 50 minute runs! My doctor has me measuring in minutes, not miles, and I’m digging this method! …Although I can’t help but log the mileage when I’m done. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am thinking I can be 10k ready by May, so I’m looking for a raceย in Spain!

I found this sweet “trail” overlooking the sea. But I may have been trespassing… still not sure haha!

Here in Malaga, most of my runs happen along the beach. Sometimes I take it to the mountains for a little hill work. It’s a runner’s paradise! Here’s the work I did last week:

Monday- 40 minutes @ 10:30 pace. 3.6 miles.

Tuesday- 30 minutes @ 10:00 pace. 3 miles.

Wednesday- rest

Thursday- 25 minutes, no recorded pace. 2 miles.

Friday- rest

Saturday- 40 minutes at 9:45 pace. 4 milesย + squats, side and front lunges. Lord have mercy, that made me so sore!

Sunday- 30 minutes of yoga to loosen up.

Total running time: 135 minutes, 12.6 miles.

I'm a student of law and life. A Jill of all trades, master of none. But I'm hoping to master something, sometime. ;) Preferably a sub-23 5k and a sub-4 marathon!

  1. Glad to hear you’re feeling good and back to running! Also, I’m totally envious of your trail. I would definitely possibly trespass with you were I in Spain! : )

  2. Glad things are going well and progressing to more time on feet running! I really enjoy running by time (but I too, still log distance). Sometimes it’s just easier to be like I’m going running for an hour and call it good- I do this a lot more often in winter when I’m confined to treadmill.
