BayLeaf’s Training Log: 5.14.18 – 5.20.18

Another week that wasn’t quite on “schedule.” I was sick and the baby, who had been sleeping the night for a (whole) month, started waking up again (teething). I also left my job so there’s been a lot going on that’s shaking up my routine (and my headspace).ย 

Monday, May 14
4 miles, 10×200 at mile pace, 7:43 average
It felt good to get some quick turnover again. I felt like my splits should have been faster than ~40s… it certainly felt it, but then again, I wasn’t bent over at the end. So maybe I should just run harder next time. (I was clocking a 5:30 mile pace, so I guess I wasn’t too far off what I was going for.)

Monday, May 14
2.5 miles, 9:37 average
I had my last Runner’s World Lunch Run with my team. We ran to Rita’s for custard and ice and then walked back (not logged). More on that later, but leaving RW was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. The custard sendoff helped.

Wednesday, May 16
5.5 miles, 8:23 average
My usual five-miler is now 5.5 from the new house. Because the route goes up by Lehigh University, cutting it short to make it five would make it less pretty. Another half mile will only do me good.

Saturday, May 19
6 miles, 8:38 average
I couldn’t run Thursday or Friday because I was sickโ€” like that deep-in-your-bones-achy sick. Turns out I was battling another bout of mastitis. But because my symptoms weren’t quite what they usually are at first, I didn’t treat right away, making the infection so much worse. So, on Saturday,ย I wanted to run 10. The weekend before I didn’t run long, so I really wanted that long run. But between the downpouring rain and my body aches, I settled for a grueling six.

  1. Phew, that is a lot going on. Where are you heading next after RW? Also, mastitis is the worst – sorry you had to deal with that!
