Basil’s Training Log – 11.23.14

I got out on the trails for some of my “runs” this week, and it was so fabulous! If I’ve gained anything from this injury it’s an understanding of just how much joy I get from a simple run. I may start a run with a heavy heart, but by the time I’m done, I’m smiling at the sunrise like a fool. All of my runs right now are at very easy paces, and while I do miss the challenge of harder workouts, I can say with all honesty that I am enjoying every minute I get to spend on the trail or treadmill. I know that sounds crazy (treadmill? I mean, yuck, right?), but I’m just so happy to be running again.

Here are my workouts for the week:

Monday- 5.9 miles – 5 minute walking warm-up, 8 x 5 minutes running with 2 minute walk breaks. This run felt so great!

Tuesday- 45 minutes elliptical, 30 minutes weights

Wednesday- 5.9 miles – 4 minute walking warm-up, 8×5 minutes running with 2 minute walk breaks. Felt great–ended up running in the rain just as it was starting to freeze, but I managed to make it home without slipping!

Thursday- 1 hour elliptical, 30 minutes weights. Mixed in 4×5 minute stretches of higher intensity on the elliptical just to keep it interesting.

Friday- 8.25 mile walk – As prescribed by my PT, I’m doing long walks in lieu of long runs. It was icy out so didn’t walk as briskly. Stayed on trails nearby the house and a friend joined me for the last hour which was a really nice distraction.

Saturday- 6.1 miles – 8×5 min running with 2 minute walk breaks. Did this one on the treadmill. Still so happy to be running!!

Sunday- Off

Total – 1 hour of weights, 1.75 hours of elliptical, 8 miles walking, and 18 miles running!

Recovering corporate hamster-wheeler turned Alaskan hausfrau, mother of two and running enthusiast. Kind of a June Cleaver in tempo shorts...minus the makeup and vacuum. Will run to great lengths to get a moment of peace.
