Barley’s Training Log 9/12-9/18-16

This was one of those weeks where I went into it knowing I had to be flexible and had to be diligent about recovery. It wasn’t so much about the running part but because it was going to be the biggest work week for me that I have had in a while. 7 days of work, 4 of those days being both jobs (12-16 hour days). While it wasn’t ideal, and this is no longer the norm (it was for me at some points in life)- I knew I could do it and still make the most of my training (and life in general)

What did it mean? Moving runs around where they fit better (specifically moving Tuesday’s workout to Thursday when I only had 1 job and had more time to execute it better, and the evening for recovery), and also meant skipping the strength/cross training for the most part.

When not working or running, I was watching football, playing with the dogs, and spending time with Brian. You know, the important stuff. Sunday was a total running filled day as I went to cheer for our local half/full marathon because my sister and many friends were running. After that I also went to say hi to a friend running a treadmill 50k. Needless to say when I started my run in the afternoon there was no shortage of inspiration.

Monday: Easy 10k run after work

Tuesday: Rest Day (moved from Wednesday) + Chiropractor appointment

Wednesday: Easy 6 miles between jobs

Thursday: Roughly 12 miles for the day with 2 Tempo/6x1K/2 Tempo. This was a tough workout but it went well and was confidence boosting to hit the 2 tempo miles on jello legs after sub-6:00 pace K repeats.

Friday: Chiropractor Appointment + 9ish easy miles between jobs (was a little warmer out than I thought, and felt a bit dehydrated throughout this run….a good reminder to drink more water!)

Saturday: 8 Easy miles

Sunday: 14 miles with 2 x 4 miles at MP, this was another good MP workout like last weekend but was happy with the change from 3 x 2 miles to 2 x 4 miles without it feeling drastically harder. After work in the evening I did 20 minutes of core and body-weight exercises (something better than nothing for the week!)

Weekly Total Running Miles: 55.1 miles

Cross Training: None

Strength/Fitness Totals: 20 minutes (1 session)

Beers Drank: Sam Adams Octoberfest, Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald

  1. Your discipline is amazing! Nice work getting those runs in with a very busy schedule and still making time for the important things. And great taste in beer-those are two of my faves!
