Barley’s Return to Running log 7/18-7/24

This was the first week in a while that I actually felt like I was “training”. Sure the miles are still way lower than normal, but the consistency was there and I’m happy with that. I don’t need to turn this into a competition, I don’t need to run more miles to try and be back where I was quicker than someone else or something- this is totally about me and I remind myself of that a lot. That keeps me from doing dumb things, and also keeps me focused on what I CAN do for myself. That said, I’ve done really well with my nutrition lately. I still enjoy my beer, or night out when we do so- but I’d say 90% of the time I eat pretty healthy. That’s where I like it to be honestly, that 10% does a lot of good even if it’s not nutritionally ๐Ÿ™‚

While I have my frustrating moments getting back into things- I am mostly having fun with it. I have been running at different places, changing things up and also celebrating the little milestones along the way. Perk of having a new watch getting back into things, it tells me all the time that I’m breaking records. Furthest and fastest I have run etc etc. If only it knew that right now I’m far from my distance and speed barriers- but at least I am working to get there.

Monday: 15 minute warm-up on Elliptical, followed by 25 minutes of core & upper body strength training

Tuesday: Chiropractor in the morning (working on hips and adductor currently), 5ish mile run after work at a local park

Wednesday: First workout in months! 2 x {4 x 400m w/2 minutes recovery}, averaged 88 for the 400’s. Total of a little over 7 miles for the day with warm-up and cool-down. Finished with 15 minutes of core work before bed.

Thursday: Chiropractor in the morning (hip and lower back work), 4 mile recovery treadmill run after work, followed by 30 minutes of core/lower body work

Friday: Rest

Saturday: 6ish mile run in the heat, with 15 minutes core/upper body strength at home later in the day. I ended up not having to work at night, so we took one of the dogs for a 2 mile walk.

Sunday: 9.5 mile hot/hilly run, with 20 minutes of miniband work later on in the day

Weekly Total Running Miles: 32.1 miles

Cross training: Elliptical (1.5 miles), Walking (2 miles)

Strength/Fitness Totals:ย 5 sessions (105 minutes)
