It has been a crazy week here! Spent nearly all of it in upstate New York (near Syracuse for a few days and in Buffalo for a few days) to visit my brother and to celebrate the wedding of a longtime friend! I did manage to get in a little bit of activity this week, despite all of the running around that was done. Well, it wasn’t all running around, there was some much needed rest and relaxation for the week also! I got a few beautiful runs in in my brother’s town. The weather was glorious, low’s in the 50’s and high’s in the upper 70’s to low 80’s. It was such a relief from the high heat and humidity that has been plaguing Central Indiana for the last few weeks. Read on for more details of my week!
6/11 – Today, we rose bright and early to get on our flight to upstate New York. We landed in Buffalo (it was cheaper to fly into Buffalo) and took our rental car and drove it to my brother’s home in Cazenovia (just South of Syracuse). When we were about 30 minutes away, we got a phone call from someone at the Southwest baggage department at the Buffalo Airport to let us know that we had left a bag at the airport. Crud. And it was a bag full of my clothes, my make up, and my medications! Great. It would have been over 120 dollars to ship it, so that was not an option! Going back to get it would have meant 5 more hours in the car, so that was not ideal, as well. We ended up making a Target shopping trip for some clothing essentials and make up for myself. This worked out pretty well. Going without my medications for two days was not the most ideal thing, but thankfully, my thyroid and Crohn’s disease issues are pretty stable. Luckily, our other bag had my essentials (socks, underwear, running clothes, shoes, etc), so I could make do. As far as activity goes that day, I got to do stand up paddle boarding for the first time! My brother lives right across from a beautiful lake. I really enjoyed this, and I felt like my core got a good workout! And, I didn’t fall in … unlike my husband 🙂
6/12 – Today, we did some walking around near the lake and in the town of Skaneatles, nothing too strenuous. Enjoyed the sites and did a little shopping!
6/13 – Woke up and went for a run this morning! It was glorious! Temperatures were in the low 60’s, the humidity was low, and my mood was elevated. My brother’s partner recommended a route for me, warning me that if I turned up a certain street, that there was a pretty steep hill. Holy cow. He wasn’t kidding. I got up about halfway and decided that it would be more efficient to just power walk the rest of the way. Yowza. After this, I ran along residential streets and into Cazenovia’s main street. I ended my run down at the boat dock by the lake, stretched out, and enjoyed the view. It was a nice change of scenery! I ran 3 miles at 10:40 min/mi pace (that hill slowed me down a lot!).
6/14 – I did another morning run, changing my route up just a little bit from the day before. I still included that hill. I was determined to get a little farther up it than yesterday. I got about two-thirds of the way before I had to walk up the rest of the way. Then I proceeded to run downtown and near parks and restaurants by the lake. I ended my run at the boat dock again. I ran 3 miles at a 10:31 min/mi pace. I wanted one more beautiful view before we headed out for the second part of our journey! Our next stop was back to Buffalo for my friend’s wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.
6/15 – No running today, but between walking down the aisle in heels and dancing to Backstreet Boys at my friend’s wedding reception, I got in a little bit of activity.
6/16 – Last day of our week away. We flew from Buffalo and had a layover in the Baltimore Airport. I have been in this airport way too much in the last 2 months! We had a longer layover, so I definitely got some walking around done between terminals. It was nice to be home that evening and sleep in my bed, snuggled with my kitties.
6/17 – Today, I just rested. I always find myself a little worn out after traveling. Sometimes you just need a vacation day from your vacation. It’s back to the real world and chaos at work tomorrow!
As of right now, there are not any trips in the near, near future. We are hoping to take a little trip sometime in the early fall. I should be back to my normal routine this week, getting in 3-4 runs and a little cross-training. Have a great week, everyone!
