Another week has come and gone. It feels weird to not have any kind of structure to my workouts, so I am trying to develop some kind of routine and get back a little bit more running mileage-wise. Just a little to maintain a good base, as I still want to include more strength and cross-training activities. I really need to get back on the strengthening bandwagon, as well. I have all of these great ideas and just lack execution!
5/21 – I did not really get any activity in today. I had to spend my limited evening hours writing some fun posts for the website (I hope you saw my fangirl piece on the Royal Wedding 😉 … ). I also had to make a dish for a get-together with friends the next day! So, I was pretty domestic … which is a mental workout in itself!
5/22 – I took a walk outside at work today (barely missing some rain!) during my lunch break. That was about it. I had a fun get-together with some friends and spent my evening working my abdominals because of all of the laughs we shared!
5/23 – Run/walk in the AM – Did 3.5 miles at 10:53 min/mi pace. I ran a half mile and then walked 1 minute after each half mile. After running, I volunteered for an event at the Zoo through my work. Since it is race week, they were having the “Zoopolis 500,” an exciting turtle race! I got quite a kick out of the turtles (designated to be specific IndyCar Drivers) “racing” to platters of fruit. Tony Kanaan and Matheus Leist were there to wave the checkered flags. I got a lot of walking in during that time and definitely met my step count for the day.
5/24 – I did a short walk during my lunch break today. I also walked a few miles later in the evening after work with my husband. It was actually pleasant in the evening to stroll around. It has been hot and humid in Indy this week (it usually is for the race for some reason). They used to hold the Mini Marathon the weekend of the race … I can’t imagine how miserably hot it would have been if that was the case this year. Temps are in the high 80’s and low 90’s and humidity is running around the same percentage-wise. Yuck.
5/25 – Morning run before work. I did 2.87 miles at 10:28 min/mi pace. I took two 1-minute walk breaks after mile 1 and 2. I felt pretty good this morning, like I’m starting to get some energy back. My energy has bonked severely recently. Maybe it was because I have a nice long weekend coming up?!
5/26 – A warm morning run that was thankfully made less miserable with some light rain! I, for the most part, do not mind a little rain on my runs – especially on these summer runs! I did 4 miles at 10:31 min/mi pace. I broke it up by running 2 miles, walking 2 minutes, and then running the last (nearly) 2 miles). I felt pretty good during this run and felt very thankful for energy return (again) and a little rain relief.
5/27 – Happy race day, friends! It was a hot one out there! Will Power won the 102nd running of the Indy500! Today, I was motivated to get a strengthening workout in! Hooray! I did a 10 minute walking warm up on the treadmill, followed by my strengthening workout. I have a book that was published by Women’s Health Magazine that has a variety of workouts and strength moves. I found one that I thought would be suitable for me and went for it! And for my fellow cat ladies, of course, my cats somehow ended up inserting themselves into my workout. Man, I am weak! It was a triumphant feeling to be done, though. I finished up with 10 more minutes walking on the treadmill.
