This was my last base-building week before starting marathon training begins, and boy, it was a busy one! I hit my mileage goal (25 miles), but I also got in lots of other physical activity during my time in Florida. Then it was back to real life and colder temps! My legs were definitely adjusting to the increased mileage. I’ve been waking up just barely in time for my morning runs, so I really need to re-establish that part of my routine!
Monday – 4 Florida miles at 9:11 pace. My legs were pretty tired after the long run + lots of beach walking + a small hike the day before. I normally wouldn’t run the day after my long run, but it worked the best logistically for me this way. Plus I got to see the sun rise! I also went on a nature hike later in the day at Honeymoon Island State Park (so pretty!), so it was a very taxing couple of days for my legs.
Tuesday – Rest/travel day. I tried to stay very hydrated on the plane, knowing that I had an early run the next day.
Wednesday – 3 miles at 9:51 pace back in Lexington. Wow. Talk about a shock! It was 21 degrees.
Thursday – 5 miles at 9:33 pace.
Friday – 3 miles at 9:56 pace with the puppy.
Saturday – 10 miles – my first double-digit run since the marathon. It was in the 40s, thankfully, and I clicked off the miles chatting with some old running buddies and a new one who is training for her first full. We got to talking so much that I didn’t even notice how much we picked it up at the end! 9:10 overall pace.
Sunday – Rest. I spent the day doing yard work and getting ready for Christmas – including lots of baking!
Total – 25 miles
