I didn’t hit my goal core, mileage or elevation this week. All around, it was a low energy week. I was tired from last weekend’s runs, but since Monday was a holiday, I managed to get some food prep done for the week (not quite a New Year’s resolution, but something to work on). It’s a good thing I did because by the time Thursday rolled around, I was depleted. I spent a lot of time on the couch, not wanting to run, cook, read or anything else for that matter, feeling depressed about the inauguration and stress at work. Surprisingly, when I did run, my runs were good, so we’ll call it a win anyway. Next week is recovery week, so hopefully I’ll regain some energy.
Monday – rest
Tuesday – Speedwork: 5 x 5 minute intervals on the track. Longest of the three interval workouts I’ve done so far, but also the easiest. Total: 8.2 miles
Wednesday – 5 miles and 1 hour Power Sculpt class
Thursday – rest, couldn’t drag myself out
Friday – What a day. I was so, so close to skipping this run, but my boyfriend came home from work and wanted to run. Since I hadn’t cracked open a beer yet, I said I’d run three with him, but once we were out, I felt great and decided to finish the five in the dark and the rain. I even made it a tempo, trying to keep up with him since he had the flashlight. Lesson: when feeling crappy about the world, running will always lift your mood. (But honestly, sometimes I just want to wallow in it.)
Saturday – I was supposed to run 8, but I went to the Women’s March with my family, and decided quality time with them was more important today.
Sunday – 14 mile long run on the trails. My only elevation for the week, but a good run.
Total: 32.4 miles, 2,359 feet. 1 core class. Less than my goal for the week, but whatever. I have still managed to keep up my “30 day butt & arm challenges” so there’s that.
