Cinnamon’s Training Log 2.22.17

CinnamonSo I’m training, but I still haven’t signed up for my spring marathon. I was gonna do Eugene with friends from NYC but we all kind of backed out at the same time. Then I thought maybe Glass City, since I’m living in Cleveland these days (oh yeah, that happened since my last training log), but I don’t know anyone else running and I kinda want to go somewhere I’ll have friends, or at least a good HHH party. Now it’s looking like I might return to New Jersey and get to visit my NYC fam for a while. It’s giving me feelz just thinking about it! ❤️❤️❤️

Here’s the overview of what’s going on in my training:

I’m doing Hanson’s again, but introducing some fun different stuff, including fast finish long runs from McMillan‘s book, which I’m still kind of reading. I’m also consistently doing form drills, thanks to good influences by Dr. Garlic and the North cross country girls, and a core/hip/leg strength workout I cobbled together from P90X, this weird crossfit burpee-type thing Cilantro taught me and stuff I learned from various physical therapists. After a brief chat with Pesto I have decided to squeeze an extra medium intensity mile into my track day, which is always my favorite day, just because I’d rather do an extra mile at HMP than stretch out my warmup for 4 miles.

The easy miles are killing me lately. Ever since last fall I can’t seem to keep my head in the right place, and I’m struggling to enjoy them. I feel very limited and boxed in by my new surroundings here in Cleveland… I’m learning to suck it up and drive places, but I miss running out for groceries and taking the subway back, and running the bridges and seeing the Financial District glorious in the afternoon sun. Still, at least now I have the forest. I just kind of resent having to drive to it.

Anyway, here’s some numbers:

Sat 2/11 – the weather was gorgeous so I flipped my long run to Saturday. 14 miles at 9:40

Sun 2/12 – 7 easy

Mon 2/13 – 8 easy

Tues 2/14 – 3x 1 mile at 7:40, 10 total

Wed 2/15 – 6 easy

Thurs 2/16 – 7.5 at MP, 10 total

Friday 2/17 – off – I had been feeling like absolute ass before this day off. When I took it I realized I hadn’t had a day off from running since Monday the 6th. “duhh…why am I feeling like poop? derp de derp, guess I’ll just do a hard workout…”

Saturday 2/18 – 7, then 4

Sunday 2/19 – 10 easy (thank goodness for cutback weeks!!)

Mon 2/20 – 7 easy

Tues 2/21 – 2m warmup, 1x mile @ 7:45, 5×800 @ 7:20, 1×800 @ 7:00 plus drills and cool down to mak10 total.

Wed 2/22 – off and trying to commit to my Wednesdays off after my experience last Friday. The extra HMP mile will likely help.

That’s a lotta miles!

  1. Love all the bits and pieces you are taking from different training plans, and other runners- good way to try out new methods and keep things fun/interesting!!

  2. Hooray for a Cinnamon Training Log! And a SOLID workout on Tuesday! And I agree, easy runs can be hard to be motivated for – my current solution is either meeting friends or going to accomplish something (run to haircut, run to church, etc.).
