This is week 3 of a 4 week 5K plan. My coach alternates a long run week with a 2-speed workout week (jury’s still out on which is worse) and this was a long run week. I started the week in a hotel in Dallas, where we are moving this summer, and finished it in a hotel in Vegas!
Monday- 6 easy on the hotel treadmill, 8:20 pace.
Tuesday-track day. I’ve done this workout unsuccessfully twice now and was terrified driving to the track. The prescribed workout was 2×400 at 90, 2 x 1600 at 6:00, and 4 x 200 at 42. I usually have no problems with the 400s and 200s and fail miserably at the 1600s. I finished the 400s in 88 and 87 and was pleased with how sprightly my legs felt. I did the first 1600 in 5:59 and yelled “YES!” to the crows and grackles who were watching me. I tend to get close to goal pace on the first 1600 and then blow up on the second, so I was thrilled to run 6:03 on the second 1600! I finished with 200s on pace and skipped off the track to go teach a spin class.
Wednesday-8 easy, 7:51 pace and then taught a spin class at night.
Thursday- Because my husband and I were flying to Vegas for the weekend, I wanted to get my long run done, so I did it right after I dropped the kids off at school. I did 13 miles averaging 7:48 pace.
Friday- 7 miles easy, 7:54 pace and then flew to Vegas!
Saturday- 2 mile warmup, 3x 1 mile at 6:44 pace with 60 recovery, 2 mile cooldown. I did this on the hotel treadmill because I hate running on the strip in Vegas! That night my husband and I saw Celine Dion in concert and it was amazing!
This week I’ll do 2 speed workouts and then get ready for the 5K on June 10!
