For the love of stats, here is NYC 2018:

    •   5K – 27:31 (8:50 pace) (a little too quick for the first 5k, in my opinion, but right on target pace)
    • 10K – 26:09 – 0:54:30 (8:24 pace) (I was running next to some guy for 10 minutes before I realized it was Scott Jurek. Ran with that just-a-little-too-fast pace group for almost this whole 5k)
    • 15K – 27:32 – 1:22:02 (8:51 pace) (trying to slow down to recover from that too-fast pace group)
    • 20K – 29:11 – 1:51:13 (9:22 pace! SHIT!) (that damn port-a-potty line!)
    • 25K – 28:52 – 2:20:05 (9:16 pace) (trying to recover, but tired legs and starting to get stressy…)
    • 30K – 28:03 – 2:48:08 (9:00 pace) (there’s hope! This section even includes the Queensboro Bridge, which I CRUSHED…)
    • 35K – 29:44 – 3:17:52 (9:33 pace) (…and then I was crushed. the Dark Place Started around 33K)
    • 40K – 31:45 – 3:49:37 (10:12 pace)  (The deep sadness. Also my stop with the hashers.)
    • Finish (42.2K) –  12:15 (A slight recovery, but not quite enough)
    • End result 4:01:52

And Erie 2016 (I don’t know wtf with these splits, but it’s a beardy guy marathon, so we got splits for 2.75 mi (?), 10k, half, 15.85mi (?), 20mi and finish. I extrapolated the data to figure something close to this):

    •  5K – 26:51 (8:38 pace)
    • 10K – 27:01 – 53:52 (8:41 pace)
    • 15K – 27:19 – 1:21:12 (8:46 pace)
    • 20K – 27:19 – 1:48:31 (8:46 pace)
    • 25K – 27:01 –  2:15:32 (8:41 pace)
    • 30K – 27:06 – 2:42:38 (8:43 pace)
    • 35K – 27:07 – 3:09:45 (8:43 pace)
    • 40K – 27:09 – 3:36:54 (8:43 pace)
    • Finish (42.2K) –  11:44
    • End result 3:48:38 (8:44 overall pace)
