The First Trimester Yuck

Cinnamon and Pepper are going to be taking over the Friday 5 today before Pepper heads out to Boston. Rock it, Pepper! I just didn’t have the energy to do anything other than wallow in my first trimester yucko feeling. I don’t know about you, but during the first trimester of all my pregnancies all I want to do is hibernate. I am exhausted and nauseous at all times. I have a box of cereal on my nightstand to snack on in the middle of the night so I don’t wake up puking. My husband makes fun of my snacking in bed. Hot!

And running. Oh man. Through some miracle I have managed to run every day of this pregnancy so far, but then again it’s only been a few weeks. I felt great up until April 1 (of course!) And since then it’s been a slow decline. This week I’ve had to pry myself out the door. I basically just turn off my brain and go to the Y or to my running date no matter how bad I feel knowing that once there I’ll get something in even if it’s only a few slow miles.

That being said I am really proud that I am miles ahead of where I was at this point during my last two pregnancies (pun intended). I maybe ran 20 miles a week during the first trimester of both and gained a pound a week for the first half of both pregnancies! So far I haven’t gained any weight, although I was already up a few from being injured. But I ran 47 last week and 50 the week before. Anything over 40 this week and I’ll call it a victory. I know I’ll feel better in a few weeks on all fronts and that good feeling should last until about the last month. I gotta say, I think it’s easier to get out for a run during most of the third trimester than the first!

But for now, it’s time to get some more cereal and lay on the couch.

  1. I’m impressed that you are still running 40 miles a week! I think I’m at about 10 right now. I get so dehydrated with anything longer then 3-4 miles. I’m still getting down to the fitness center 5 days a week though and am only up about 4-5 lbs at 17 weeks. I hope the first trimester yuck goes quickly for you but in the meantime enjoy your cereal in bed!!

    1. Not any more! I was down to 30 last week and we’ll see if I crack 20 this week. I got attacked by the puke monster! Oh well. It should be over in 2-4 weeks and I can get back at it when I’m feeling better. Glad you aren’t on the gain 27 lbs in 20 weeks plan that I was on with #2!
