Coriander’s Training Log: 10.5.14

Yes, I’m actually posting a training log! It’s been so long, I can’t even remember the last time I wrote one, sorry. This week ended another training cycle for me. I’m off to Pennsylvania for the Oil Creek 100K on Saturday. I’ve attempted this race and distance before two years ago, but quit at mile 23 with a knee injury. This weekend’s race has been two years in the making more » Read more

Coriander’s Training Log: 3.23.14

Ugh, another week, another late training log! I was off work all of last week (been with the company for almost 5 years = random staycations) and slept in, watched a lot of the Today Show and reality TV and cleaned and cooked dinner. I also started 100 mile training! Yay! I guess technically, I’m always training for that, but I’m spending more time on the trails and my coach more » Read more

Coriander’s Taper and Recovery Log: 3.9.14 & 3.16.14

It’s been a really long two weeks! Two weeks ago was my easy week leading up to my first ultra of the year and I haven’t ran that much lately because of much needed rest and recovery. Week ending March 9: Monday: Off. Tuesday: 15 min warmup, 5×2:00 at 5K(ish) pace with 1:00 rest, 15 min cool down. This was a good workout leading up to the race. It felt more » Read more

Coriander’s Training Log: 3.2.14

After a few really strong weeks, this past one was not great at all. A mix of crappy, cold weather, downshift in miles, stress at work and that time of the month all happened in the same week and resulted in a blah week I didn’t really want to have right before race day. My first ultra of 2014 is on Saturday. I’ve been super selective in picking out my more » Read more

Coriander’s Training Log: 2.16.14 & 2.23.14

I am such a training log slacker! My last two weeks of heavy training for my next 50K went really, super duper well. I’m feeling great going into this race and I’ve gotten a lot of great training runs in. That being said though, my mind is constantly on my 100 milers this year. I have lots of big things coming this year and I’m trying to focus on one more » Read more

Coriander’s Training Log: 2.2.14

Sorry for disappearing for the past few weeks. I am so glad January is finally over. To be honest, the best thing about the past month is that it ended. It started with my nasty sinus infection that wouldn’t go away, then the weather here in CLE has been downright awful for the past three weeks. I’m happy to say that I got  a really good week of training in more » Read more

Coriander’s Training Log: 1.12.14

This week was great! Finally! 2014 wasn’t off to a great start and I was starting to think I’d never find my groove again. But this week totally helped me turn that attitude around and despite the polar vortex that hit Cleveland (and the rest of the Midwest/Northeast), training this week went very well. This week was technically a recovery week. Since the week before was lower mileage, I put more » Read more

Coriander’s Training Log: 1.5.14

Happy New Year!! My 2014 of running didn’t so much get off to a good start. I woke up sick on Christmas Eve and progressively got worse until the day before New Year’s Eve when I finally gave in and went to the doctor. I had a bad sinus infection and was told to take it easy with running and go by feel. And put that together with the fabulous more » Read more

Coriander’s Training Log: 12.1.13

I cannot believe it’s December already! This year has been so amazing, I’m a little sad to know that it’s almost over. This past week was all about recovery from my last big race of the year, the JFK 50 Mile in Maryland. The race report is coming soon! So I didn’t run too much, but did run the Cleveland Turkey Trot. That was probably the most exciting part of more » Read more

Coriander’s Training Log: 11.10.13

Another week down, another week closer to my next ultra! I had a good week of training and I’m starting to focus on the race now more than before. Monday: Rest. Tuesday: Hill repeat day! 25 min warmup, 6×2:00, 20 min cool down. So for some reason, I freaked out on my way to the park about not running trails enough lately and thinking I won’t be prepared for the more » Read more

Coriander’s “I’m Still Alive!” Training Log: 11.3.13

OMG! How did I make it so long without posting anything, especially a training log! It’s funny how you always think of things you need to do while you’re running and then completely forget when you can actually do them! In the past month or so, I’ve been busy adding on the miles and getting ready for my next adventure, the JFK 50 Mile in Maryland in about two weeks! more » Read more

Coriander’s Training Log: 9.15.13

OMG it’s been forever since I posted a training log! These weeks have been flying by and the Akron Marathon is NEXT Saturday! I can’t believe I’ve been working with Coach Emily for nine weeks now and the race is almost here. I feel really ready for a speedy marathon and hitting that time I set a goal for so long ago. This past week was my last week of more » Read more

Coriander’s Training Log: 8.25.13

My weeks are starting to feel like an old routine again. The only part that changes each week is the speed workouts. My coach has been mixing it up every week and each workout is harder than the last. I’m also really itching to bump up the distance. My weekly mileage has been around the low 40’s lately and it’s starting to bug me that I’m not back up to more » Read more

Coriander’s Training Log: 8.11.13 & 8.18.13

Work is kicking my butt! I’m so glad I’m not training for a 100 miler right now, or else I’d probably be only running and sleeping and working and have no time otherwise. So I owe you two weeks! Is it obvious I have somehow lost track of what day it is? Week ending 8.11: Monday: Rest/60 minute yoga class. I need yoga more often. Tuesday: 70 minutes/7.6 mile steady state run. more » Read more

Coriander’s Training Log: 8.4.13

So I totally fell off the training log wagon! So sorry! It’s weird to say I’m actually training again as my mileage is about half of what I was running a few weeks ago. But it’s OK, I’m embracing being patient and working toward my two fall “A” races. I even hired a coach. I realized after my first 100 that I needed some direction and someone to help me get more » Read more
