It’s been a rough week. My grandfather continued his downward decent and I spent a lot of time visiting with him and just being there. He ended up passing away on Saturday morning. Even with Hospice’s care, he was very uncomfortable and it was a relief that his suffering ended relatively quickly. Thank goodness for running for providing a much needed outlet and some me-time. Trying to take care of three very young kids day in and day out, while grieving is very exhausting. I’m so lucky to have a supportive husband and sister (the lovely Cinnamon!) who have been nothing short of awesome making sure I can get out and vent on the roads (tracks, trails, etc.)
So despite everything, I managed to get all my training in last week. It might not happen this week with the funeral and what-not, but that’s ok. I’m taking it one day at a time and just getting in what I can when I can.
Mon: 8 early and easy
Tue: 3 in the early a.m. with no watch. And then 10 with track. 2 x (8 x 400) with 60 seconds between reps and 2:30 between sets. This went surprisingly well! 88, 89, 88, 88, 88, 88, 88, 88; 87, 88, 88, 88, 86, 86, 86, 83. It was a really hard workout with the short rest, but I ran these way faster than I did my last 400 workout a few weeks ago where running sub-90 for the last 4 felt downright torturous. And this was my first workout completely under 6:00 pace in a long time. Yeah!
Wed: 5.6 elliptical. Wanted 6 but ran out of time.
Thu: 10 with tempo. I’m supposed to do tempos on Fridays, but I had to run in the evening on Thursday and the morning on Friday. There was no way I could do a tempo first thing after an evening run and I didn’t want to do it later in the morning on the treadmill, so I just got it done. My legs were tired, but I got it done. Goal was 2 x 3 @ 6:45 with 90 seconds in between. Ran: 6:48, 6:47, 6:47; 6:46, 6:40, 6:45.
Fri: 7 on the treadmill around 8:30 pace.
Sa: 7.5 on trails averaging 7:59.
Su: 14 averaging 7:42. Tired, but not as much as my teammie Kelsi who raced the day before so I worked hard to get us through it and it was nice to have to pull someone else along for a change!
Total: 59.5 running and 5.6 elliptical
