There goes my third week back of training! And it was another week with some obstacles thrown in my way, but, you know, I am a mom to three really little kids so, that’s kind of a typical week.
The week started off decently. I had a good set of 800s, but during the last mile of my cool down I started to feel nauseous and not so good. I thought maybe I needed to eat something, so had a snack, drank some water and wrote it off. The next morning, I had an early morning treadmill run on tap and I had to stop 3 times to go to the bathroom – in less than an hour. THREE TIMES. NOT normal, even for an early run. My appetite wasn’t normal the rest of the day either. And then when the baby woke up the next day and was covered in puke. Oh boy. A new plague has decended.
Luckily, the bug was mild for everyone and we still managed to go through with our planned two-night trip to the indoor water park. After, I crammed in my tempo on Thursday morning, of course! Despite being a little under the weather I managed to get my tempo in, mostly hit my targets and do it all without stopping to hit the restroom. Woo! It’s the little things.
The water park was so fun. My kids LOVED it and I, who normally hates amusement park rides and such, had a blast going on all the big slides with my 5 year-old who wanted to go on EVERYTHING. I couldn’t believe how brave he was and how much fun we had. Awesome! My 3.5 year old found a little kid slide and ran around and slid, and around and slid and around and slid so many times, I thought she’d wear a ditch in the floor! And the baby could sit and watch other kids play while she splashed in the baby pool all day. It was great! Only downside was that it’s always hard to get runs in on family vacations, especially when the resort has one horrible old clunky treadmill in the basement. I got one of 2 hoped for runs in and was only short two miles for the week. With everything going on, I’ll claim that victory! One thing I didn’t do much while were there was take photos. Needless to say, little ones, water parks and electronic devices don’t mix!
When I got home, I received a package from Cinnamon. I opened it up and was super excited to find my Bia! (During their Kickstarter campaign, Cinnamon did an interview with Cheryl Kellond, one of the amazing women behind Bia. Check it out here!) Just in time for my long run!

M: 7 really easy on the mill. Tired! 8:25ish.
T: 6 x 800 at 3:10 (all on pace, except last one a little faster). 2:00 easy in between. 9 total.
W: 7 super sluggy and slow before kids woke up on the basement mill. 8:30ish.
Th: Crammed in the 5 mile tempo before heading out to the indoor waterpark adventure! 9 miles total with 5 in: 6:51; 6:49; 6:44; 6:40; 6:33.
F: 7 on the worlds saddest treadmill all alone in the basement of the waterpark. Horrible treadmill, but managed to get in 7 around 8:30.
Sa: Off. I could not cram one in. With the sick kids, the water park, the traveling and being run down from the stomach bug and crazy water sliding, it was not happening.
Su: 14 solo miles. 14 degrees at the start and roads were icy. Ran some good hills and learned squats the night before a hilly long run are a bad idea. Noted! 7:45ish. First run with my Bia!
This week, I’m going to continue with the theme of going for it and diving in to my workouts! Let’s nail this week of training, gang!
