Salty’s Training Log 3.11.12

I managed 35 miles this week in 5 runs and also cross-trained two days. I have to call that a huge victory.  I felt pretty cruddy on Tuesday when I ran on the treadmill, but every other run felt pretty good. Most notably, on Friday I managed to keep up with my teammate and buddy NC, my husband and our good friend MR. The two other ladies in that crowd just ran in the Olympic Trials Marathon so I feel pretty good about that, even if it was just an easy run. We ran 8 hilly miles on trails and I survived!

This weekend was nuts. Remind me never to plan three evening social engagements the weekend of a time change ever again. Yikes! Since we’ve had kids we don’t go out a ton, so going out three times in a weekend was insane for me. Plus we lost an entire hour so now I am toast! The kids were cranky pants tonight too and my husband is stressed out frantically getting ready for the hectic work week ahead. Some day life will slow down a bit and we can take a deep breath. Until then, bear with me. I might seem a little stressed out!

Ahh, but in between the madness there were some sweet times. We spent a lot of family time together. Today it was almost 70 and sunny. Husband and I packed the kids up and headed to the local park for 6 miles together.  Since he was pushing I ran ahead and ended up taking off and finishing the last 2-plus miles pretty quick. I haven’t charged my Garmin since my New Year’s Eve injury so I have no idea what pace, but I think I solidly averaged under 8:00 for the 6. That’s progress just 12 days into the comeback. I’ll take it!

A little cool-down with my little girl.

Monday: 40 minute tempo effort elliptical during son’s gym and swim class.

Tuesday: 5 miles on the treadmill slow and yucko.

Wednesday: 8 on trails.

Thursday: A.M. Mile swim all free-style. I’m getting there with my swimming and enjoying it! P.M. A great massage which revealed my injury feels a lot better since my last appointment even with the reintroduction of running. Yeehaw!

Friday: 8 on trails followed by a great dinner and drinks with great friends!

Saturday: 8 on the roads with a friend also recovering from an injury.

Sunday: 6 at a moderate effort and felt good!

Total: 35 miles.
