Salty’s Training Log – 2.15.15

This is the point of winter when I start really hating life. I never ever ever have had a great February. It’s just not my month. I don’t mean to be all wa-wa on you, but damn if it takes so much extra energy and effort to not be full-on Ziggy under a black cloud at this point in the year. Fortunately, I’m not depressed this year. Just straight-up cooped up, sick of feeling out of shape and ready for some fresh air and sunshine! Instead of fighting it, I’m going with it. February is rough. Period. But, the good news? 2 more weeks and it’s over!

Mon: Off.

Tue: 6 on the basementย treadmill with 3 x 200, 200, 400 with equal distance easy recoveries. This is an old staple workout that helps break the speedwork rust. I ran this very conservatively as speedwork on the treadmill has been known to hurt me. First set was at 9.0, second 9.1 and third 9.2. Felt good.

Wed: 6 ย easy outside with no watch! My husband stayed home, so I left slightly later than my usual early runs so got to enjoy about a half hour of the emerging daylight.

Thu: 7.5 miles with 3 mile “tempo” on the basement treadmill. Again, I started this ridiculously easy and worked down. Started at 7:13 and finished at 6:49. I’d say my tempo fitness is about 6:55 or so right now. *trying not to feel like shit about that*

Fri: Super quick 4 on the basement mill … again. Busy busy stressful day. Who knew chairing a preschool Valentine’s Day Party committee could be so stressful? This is all I could squeeze in. Bla.

Sat: It was a full-on blizzard with disgusting double digit below-zero windchils, but I went out anyway because I CANNOT STAND THE TREADMILL THIS YEAR! I was fine with the treadmill last year, but this year I want to BLOW. IT. UP. Ran about 7 miles. Didn’t wear a watch and had to stick to the road at the park which was the only passable and least death defying road around.

Sun: Got 10 in around 8:00 pace at the Y in the afternoon. Not good. Felt beat up and 8:00 pace felt hard. Perhaps even worse, I drank coffee right before this run and had pee streaming down my leg by the end and wore red shorts. Not my finest hour, but got the bare minimum in and this week is in the books.

Total: 40.5. Nothing else.
