Salty’s Training Log – 12.6.15, 12.13.15, 12.20.12

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

My ass, it is.

Yesterday, after frantically trying to organize and clean our house so, if we decorated for Christmas, the decorations wouldn’t blend in with the rest of the clutter and mess all over the place, I realized we hadn’t eaten lunch and we had ten minutes before we needed to leave for a birthday party. I threw lunch on the table and implored my girls (ages 3 and 5) to eat fast! Then I ran and threw on clothes, wiped off the makeup smeared around my eyes from the day before with a baby wipe, threw my greasy hair into a “messy bun” and then grabbed them, wiping the pb&j off their faces as we walked out the the car.

And then, three minutes before the party started, we arrive to our car in the driveway … covered in snow.

SHIT!

“Mom! It’s ok! I saw on the invitation that it was ok if we are late,” my 5 year old said.

SHIT!ย

Not only are we late, but my five year-old is more reasonable than I am, I thought.

After buckling the girls in the car, I grabbed the snow brush and closed the doors.

F— Christmas! I hate this sh*t! The most wonderful time of the year, MY ASS!

I finished brushing all the snow off and still steaming got in the car.

“Mom, why are you so stressed out?” my five year-old asked (howย did she get so darn reasonable?)

“Because it’s the most wonderful time of the year!” I said with canned enthusiasm.

She guffawed at that. I love her.

We finally decorated our tree today because I love Christmas SO MUCH!

I told you a few weeks back that every time I try to train through December, I end up injured. This year, even without training, I ended up sicker than I have been in years. Last Wednesday I woke up and felt like I had a cold. Then on Thursday I felt worse and had a goopy, crusty pink eye. Then on Friday my son woke up vomiting. Then on Saturday, eye still itchy and droopy, but seemingly better. Then Sunday, my three year-old woke up vomiting and by 5:00 p.m. I blacked out I was so sick. I don’t even know what happened until 5:00 a.m. the next morning when I woke up to puke again. On Monday, I was completely bed-ridden. On Tuesday, I could eat soup, but I had a terrible cough that got worse by Wednesday. I finally managed to run on Friday. Geesh.

From my run this morning. Still feeling weak, but it felt so good to get out!

Week ending 12.13

Mon: 6 on the mill before dinner. Kids mostly behaved.

Tue: off

Wed: 6 with my youngest in the stroller. Almost 70 degrees!

Thu: Sick. Pink eye and a bad cold.

Fri: Still sick and now son is puking. Grrrreat.

Sat: 10ish with Jasmine again. Added on to the same route so feel more confident in the mileage.

Sun: 7 on trails alone around noon. I could tell it was coming. I got out as soon as I could but felt pretty yucky on this run and had to stop twice in an hour to use the bathroom, but I got it in in the nick of time!

Total: 28

Week ending 12.20

Mon: Huh?

Tue: HAHAHAHA!

Wed: help

Thu: dying. I don’t think I’ve ever taken this much time off from running in a row just for being sick. WTH?

Fri: Screw it! Let’s run! 6 miles with my friend Julie. SOOOOOOO nice to get out! Couldn’t stop coughing for about 5 minutes after the run, but worth it!

Sat: off. So behind after being sick, I worked so hard around the house I’m sore!

Sun: 6 joggy miles alone from home, but so needed!

  1. As the mother of a child with a December birthday, I can say you are a certified saint for getting to a December birthday party. Hope you are feeling better!

  2. I just efing love you! I’ve been feeling so – not in the spirit and feel like an asshole when I tell anyone I’m just not feeling it. It depressed me so much I deleted every human on my Facebook so I don’t have to look at their fabulous families and tidings. Ok, I’ll get with it! Running is therapy lately.

      1. More people need to hear this! I do a holiday stress presentation and the number one reason for the stress? EXPECTATIONS. It’s more common than we (the stores) think. I wish you a merry runningmas!
