Salty’s Training Log – 10.21.12

34 weeks! This was a pretty good week running-wise. I made it out 5 days and managed 30 miles on the nose and felt pretty good. I don’t feel nearly as gigantic and uncomfortable as I did during my previous two pregnancies at this stage and I really think it’s mainly due to running more. By running more I feel more like my usual self, so it’s both a physical and a mental difference I think!

I capped off the week by jumping in a very local 5k. My good buddy Jen lives very close to the park where the race took place and asked if I’d be interested in doing it. I wasn’t sure what racing a 5k would be like at almost 35 weeks pregnant, but I’m a sport and agreed to do it. I learned during our warm-up that the course was on trails and grass! Not exactly a pregnant woman’s dream course – heh! But the trails weren’t technical or anything, just slightly rolling with lots of sharp turns. I actually liked the soft surface and the little rollers kept things interesting. The grass sections were a little worrisome, but I managed to not fall so that’s good!

I decided I’d just run whatever I felt like running. I went out in the middle of the pack and at around .5 in started to pick people off which I did steadily throughout the entire race. With about .75 to go I realized I was gaining on one more woman and I really tried to reel her in and I did, but once we could see the finish she spanked me. For some reason, I have no kick! ๐Ÿ™‚ Turns out I came in second woman. Rats! But at the same time this one might have even impressed myself. I really didn’t expect to run as fast or place as well as I did (I was 6th overall!) I ran a 23:51 according to the race results or 7:41 pace. The garmin said I was more like 7:51, but either way that’s WAY faster than I expected. I would have been PSYCHED if I could break 8:00 for one mile, let alone average under 8:00 for the whole race.

Mon: 6 pushing daughter, no watch.

Tue: 6.2 pushing daughter with my friend Joanne around 9:30 pace.

Wed: off – crazy day!

Thu: off – another crazy day!

Fri: 6 on the treadmill at the Y. First treadmill run in months. Felt really good. Started super slow (5.8 mph), but by the end was clipping along sub 9 and averaged 9:18 for the run!

Sat: 5.5 around the neighborhood. Would have done 6, but had to pee soooo bad I could not run 4+ more minutes!

Sun: 6.3 with 5k in 23:51.

Total: 30
