Rosemary’s Training Log 6-24-12

Mid-week, I received an email from my coach with an update to this week’s training plan. The first words I see are “add a little stress.” Normally, the idea of life’s stresses makes me want to cower under the covers , but I knew exactly what he meant. Speedwork! Injury has surely changed my perspective for the better. This was a scheduled mileage down week.

Sometimes, stress can be a good thing! Image via digitalfeat.com.

Mon: AM- Cross training. Swim 50-60 minutes with some pool running in the mix.

Tue: AM-8 miles at about 9:00 pace in the morning. PM– Personal training session (30 minutes) in the evening.

Wed: AM- 5 miles at about 9:45 pace

Thu: AM– Ran 5.5 miles (round trip) to/from weight/p-90x style class. If you want a very humbling experience, try running home after an hour of lunges and squats. Hello booty lock! PM– 25 mile group bike ride with “Girls with Gears.” This was my first group ride and I loved it! My how I have missed long, sustained, out-and-back exercise.

Fri: Off. My quads, hips and butt were on strike. Pool might have helped but when my alarm sounded and my body yelled “SLEEP IN!” I listened.

Sat: AM- 8 miles with the last few at 8:00 pace. The added cardio stress felt amazing, despite residual booty/quad/hip seizing. My foot felt fine and I was so grateful to be out on the path this morning. Ran 7:49, 7:21, 7:28.

Sun: AM- 4 miles walk/jog, very easy. Decided to hit up a group run at Lululemon. Loving their yoga/post-run wear. More on my budding obsession in a future post.

Sporting my favorite post-run skirt from Lulu. Watching the Men's 800 m semi-finals in the background.

I'm a pediatric physical therapist by day. Running mostly early am miles as I balance life as the mom of a toddler. With PR days in the past, my primary running goal is to be a lifelong runner. With 20+ years behind me, I still love the sport and I am truly grateful for every day I get to run.
