Rosemary’s Training Log 10-21-12

Post race-smiles at the Peace Race 10k in Youngstown, OH.

This week was filled with gorgeous fall weather which made for some fabulous runs. I’m still hovering right around 50 miles per week and very happy with it. Also got in decent workout and a race which helped break up the week.

Monday- 8.5 easy at Monday Night Run

Tuesday- 7 miles easy passing by my most favorite park. Only a few weeks left until it will be too dark to run this loop.

Wednesday- Met Paige for her workout 6x 1 min on/off. We slogged through 6 miles before deciding that if we were going to do the minutes, we needed to do them soon! This workout definitely doesn’t play to my strengths but it was fun to get out of my comfort zone and chase Paige. Ran 9.5 miles total.

Thursday- off for a massage.

Friday- 7 miles easy with 4 x 40 sec long-strides at the end.

Saturday- 5 milesย at CRC,ย including a visit from Vanilla.

Sunday- while everyone was heading to Columbus for the half and full marathons, I headed north to the Peace Race 10k.ย  I went out 40 seconds faster (than Minster) over the first 2 miles. The uphills were pretty tough, even though it is net downhill, but I was able to speed up again on the flats instead of letting the hills conquer me. Felt myself falling into what felt like HM effort but was able to surge when I noticed I’d settled in too far.ย  Used the mantra “it’s ok to feel this way” when my body felt like utter chaos on the uphills. Solidified my belief that flat courses play to my strengths. Came home with my largest paycheck ever from a race, which was a nice consolation to the slower (than Minster) time.

I'm a pediatric physical therapist by day. Running mostly early am miles as I balance life as the mom of a toddler. With PR days in the past, my primary running goal is to be a lifelong runner. With 20+ years behind me, I still love the sport and I am truly grateful for every day I get to run.
