This week, I escaped town for a short backpacking trip, which meant I missed two big running events in my neck of the woods, the USATF Championships and Western States. I was bummed that I missed the excitement of spectating those events, but getting away was what my spirit needed. I’m out of backpacking shape and it was blazing hot, but I watched a bear swim across a lake and run through my campsite, so that pretty much made my summer.
On the running front, I’ve set a modest goal of steadily increasing my mileage 10% rule each week until I start to feel like myself again. This week I hit 27 miles, next week I’ll get to 30, etc. It’s a slow build up, but I have time and it’s the only thing I really want to commit to right now! That, and building in some good stretching and foam-rolling to loosen up my tight hips and hamstrings.
Monday – 4.4 miles easy (temps were in the 80s/90s this week, so all of these runs were slow/easy except track which was whatever I could push)
Tuesday – 1 hour strength, and 8 x 600 at the track, 6.3 miles total
Wednesday – 4.3 miles easy
Thursday – 6.8 miles trails
Friday – 5.1 miles easy
Saturday & Sunday – hiked approx 18 miles
Total: 27 miles
