Poppy’s training log – 6.19.16

Another week of easy running, but with more miles added in.  I spent most of the week at my mom’s, as my husband was in Boston for the week for work, so I had a change in scenery for most of my runs.  Being at my mom’s also meant I had help with the kids and got to do all of my runs from Monday through Friday without pushing a jogger.  That was a nice treat for my body.  I also got to spend a lot of time in her pool with the kids between runs, which was awesome.  The end of the week was spent at my mother-in-law’s, which is a very hilly area.  The hubs and I got in a great long run together while there and the kids were lucky in that they got to see both grandmas this week.  Everyone wins!

Many of my runs this week sandwiched time here with the kids.

Monday:  easy 6 in the morning, easy 4 in the afternoon

Tuesday: 6 in the morning, with 8x100m strides, 4 in the evening

Wednesday: 12 on the rail trail near my mom’s

Thursday: 6 in the morning, 6 in the evening

I do not find inspiration in this song…other than to run away from it when I hear it. It’s 30+ years old and I’ve heard it six times in the last month, including this week while driving my mom’s car. I love 80’s music, but not this song.

Friday: 8 w/ the hubs.  8×20 sec strides

Saturday: 6 in the morning w/ Emmy in the single.  This was the only run this week that I did at home.  4 in the afternoon w/ the hubs once we got out to his mom’s

Sunday: hilly 15, the first 13 w/ the hubs.

77 miles for the week

I'm a licensed massage therapist with a background in biochemistry and also a mother of two. After almost two years of focusing on shorter race distances, I am back on the marathon training horse. My next goal race is the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. I write mostly about health and science as they relate to running as well as being part of a running family.

  1. Being able to jump in the pool post-run is the best. I ran my LR at my sister’s place today so I could do just that!

    Great week of running!

    1. Jumping in the pool right after a hot, humid run is just lovely. Pool time has been more fun this summer because both kids, especially my oldest, are really into the pool and swimming. My mom has a ton of floats for them to cruise around the pool in and about a million pool toys for them to play with. It’s one of the highlights of visiting my mom’s in the summer for sure.
