Happy Superbowl Sunday! Mr Pesto likes to remind me that I’m behind with social references because of my upbringing in
Middle Earth New Zealand … so here I am watching the game, attempting to understand what the heck is going on. But hey – we get a training log out of it.
I felt much better this week than last: I ran more, got in some good recovery sessions and won/PRed in a 10km.
Mon 1/30: (am) 10mi @ 7:20
(pm) 4mi easy
Tuesday 1/31: Road/track workout. This was light and fun to freshen up for the weekend. 2mi warmup, 4×400, 10mins @ 6min pace, 5mins @ 5:30pace, 4×400. 2mi cool down.
Wed 2/1: (am) 60mins @ 7:25 and PT
(pm) 45mins strength and 25min pool run
Thur 2/2: The commencement of the two day taper!
(am) 7mi easy
(pm) 2mi very easy. Legs feeling mostly lead like.
Fri 2/3: 5mi nice and easy and few strides.
Sat 2/4: (am) 10km race. I don’t get to race very often so was looking forward to this all week + given my workouts of late we were hoping for a decent PR. Despite a brisk 20 degree morning I was able to execute the race plan. This was a big achievement for me as I tend to get kinda lazy out there. The course was pretty intimidating with a 100ft gain over the first two miles before some nice downhill and leveling out before another couple of climbs around mile five, charming! The goal was to break 36mins and I ran 36:00 and felt strong and smooth throughout so it was a good day. 2mi warmup and 3.5mi cool down.
(pm) 45min full body circuit and one hour at The Recovery Room
Sun 2/5: Long run 17mi with two friends from the local running club. As luck would have it our house is exactly this distance from a new craft brewery … enough said. Pace was a little quicker than we anticipated (7:04ave) but we chatted the whole time so we were definitely in the easy range. We were just really motivated to rehydrate 🙂
