Last week I ran with people almost everyday. This week the schedule just didn’t quite work out that way. Which is totally fine, just a wee shock to the system! Instead, I needed to squeeze in my workouts around the craziness that was this week.
The hectic-ness was bought about by an early Friday morning departure to celebrate a friend’s bachelorette party at the beach. We had a fantastic weekend, and it certainly filled the social void I had running this week! With all this, I was not able to get in the cross training and strength sessions that I would have liked, but hey, tomorrow is a new week!
Monday: (am) 55min recovery run with friend, Jess, in DC followed by a delicious brunch … and lots of coffee 🙂
(pm) Something very weird happened. Somehow I managed to convince my husband, not a runner (yet!) to join me on my afternoon double. We walk/jogged 4.5miles. I feel a little guilty logging this, but whatever. Total = 10.9mi
Tuesday: (am) Track workout. 2 mi warm up, 6 x 800s (ave 2:50) with 400 jog between. 6x 300s (ave 57sec). 2.5mi cool down. This was a great confidence boosting workout. Usually I struggle with 800s, but today the suffering was reserved for the 300s! Total = 11.5
(pm) Physical therapy, soft tissue work, dry needling and 40mins of strength work mainly focused on hips and hamstrings.
Wednesday: Total rest day. After four consecutive 10+ mile days the body was very happy about this.
Thursday: (am) 8 mi @ 8min pace. The heat and humidity are back in full force. Initially I was disheartened by how terrible I felt during this despite taking yesterday totally off but then realized that I was not alone.
Friday: (am) 9 mi @ 7:57. Humidity, same shit again. Over it.
(am) Pool run, 60mins.
(pm) 3.5 mi shake out and 4x grass strides after being cooped up in a car to the beach.
Saturday: (am) Threshold-ish workout. Honestly, I was glad just to get up and get this done despite a long night of bachelorette festivities. Hydration and nutrition were not totally there today – we will leave it at that 🙂 4mi warm up, 2x 2mi pickups (6:50 & 6:45 pace) with 0.5mi easy jog between. 4mi cool down back to house. Total = 13
Sunday: (am) Long run, 14.3mi (7:30). The plan was to run for 100mins (ended up with about 108) but the pace felt surprisingly easy which was reassuring after yesterday’s workout and continued overindulging. Speaking of – for lunch on the way home we stopped at probably the best ice cream shop *EVER* and I got an ice cream cone the size of my head. One very happy Pesto.
Weekly total = 70miles
