Thankfully I was pretty swamped with work this week so I wasn’t able to run too much – which probably wasn’t a terrible thing. For anyone who was wondering, lifeย as a PhD student doesn’t really calm down much over the summer months. Currently I am teaching a five week intensive (Mon-Fri) course, working on my research, conducting neuropsyc evals two days a week, and a hodge podge of other things. This did mean that strength/PT exercises kind of took a back seat this week BUT I’ve been sleeping like a baby.

I ran a little more than last week and experienced some shin pain on Thursday which was a little concerning but it seems to have corrected itself. Myย easy train (relaxed runs on grass and trails) continues!

Monday: (am) 50min easy training run with 4x30sec strides on the grass + 0.5mi jog home.
(pm) 35min easy pool run & abs.

Tuesday: (am) 30mins easy on grass
(pm) 0.5mi swim with friend before dinner

Wednesday: (am) 60mins. It started off nice and relaxed as I am not ready to turn over yet. Somehow ended up running a 6:45 last mile … perhaps I can’t be trusted to ‘run by feel?!’ Certainly have lost some strength withย basicallyย three months of non-running … I can’t really be upset about this.

Thursday: Hmmm … Shin pain. At firstย I wondering what could have caused this, now as I sit here writing this up I feel like a dumbass.
Abs, hip strength, upper body strength

What is life with puppy love? Especially grandpuppy love.

Friday:(am) Easy 40mins

Saturday: OFF. Day trip to visit our puppy grandbabies. Yes, that is a thing and I’m obsessed.

Sunday: Impromptu local 5K + warmup/cooldown. Initially Iย had bargained that I would not run faster than 7:30pace but I’m a terrible liar and ran 19:47. It did however feel good to bust some rust on a hilly course in near 90 degree heat. I managed to come in 3rd woman overall and won my age group. Not too bad! Now we wait to see how I feel tomorrow…

Weekly total: 32

I am currently working on my Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience while sipping on wine & coffee in Northern Virginia. Together with my husband and Rhodesian Ridgeback, Gracie we battle to keep the Tupperware cupboard organized for more than two days at time. I recently ran my first marathon (2:51) and am excited for what is to come. I like to ramble about running post injury, finding a work-life balance and running quickly.
