Plan for the week: First week of a two week taper before my race. Tapers always make me go crazy (mentally and physically as somehow every part of my anatomy decides to feign some type of crippling injury), so I was a bit nervous going into the week. I do like that the training plan I’m following continues workouts and long runs (just shorter) during the first part of the taper. It’s nice to feel like I’m doing something and hopefully the directed activity will forestall the taper crazies!
Saturday 3/5: My last long run! It was supposed to be 18 miles, but I cut it down to 16 as my heel was still a bit sore. It was a lovely run on a beautiful day with a fantastic friend and conversation buddy. Run: 16 miles trail (1,581 ft elevation gain)
Sunday 3/6: Rest Day
Monday 3/7: My friend Myra’s birthday run! We squeezed it in amidst the beginning of the work craziness that persisted through Friday. Run: 6 miles + core
Tuesday 3/8: All day meetings. Managed to skip the “lunch break” to run my mini-tempo. Run: 4.5 mile mini-tempo (avg. 6:46/mile pace), total = 6.5 miles
Wednesday 3/9: All day meetings again. Somewhat exhausted from yesterday. Skipped the “lunch break” again to do my mini-workout. Run: 5 x 5 minutes on, 1 minute off, total = 6.5 miles
Thursday 3/10: Absolutely exhausted from all of the meetings and dinners after work, but only one more day! I got up at 5am to go swimming as I didn’t have a long enough lunch break in which to work out. Swim: 2k yards
Friday 3/11: Rest Day. Starting to get super wiggly with the reduced mileage, but was not feeling phantom injuries, so that’s a bonus! I got to attend the USATF Indoor Championships in the afternoon and evening which was AWESOME. The 3k’s were the highlight for sure (Shannon Rowbury totally dominated the women’s field and Ryan Hill won the men’s 3k in a somewhat dramatic finish).
Total Mileage: 35 miles
Summary: I ended this week feeling great. I am mentally exhausted from a crazy week at work, but physically I’m feeling good and healty and am so excited/nervous for my race in ONLY ONE WEEK!!!
