Plan for the week: Hit my training plan, the main aspects of which were 40 miles total including a 12-mile long run and a 4-mile “up tempo” run. I anticipated that there would be some challenge this week especially on Tuesday and Wednesday due to having a two day offsite meeting which disrupted my normal running schedule, and just in general I expected work to be really crazy.
Saturday 12/12: The weather in Portland has been absolutely, well, WET. VERY VERY WET. There has been flooding and land slides and lots of puddles and mud, which made for a fairly miserable wet and cold long run. Run: 14 miles
Sunday 12/13: Planned Rest Day
Monday 12/14: Run: 8.4 miles
Tuesday 12/15: Off-site meeting all day for work. I was hoping to run in the morning before the meeting, but it just didn’t work out.
Wednesday 12/16: Second day of the off-site meeting. Once again I didn’t get a morning run in, but I was successful in a night run afterwards! Run: 6 miles
Thursday 12/17: Today I planned to do an “up tempo” run, which to me meant not as fast as an actual tempo run, but a bit faster than I usually run (7:15-7:50 pace). The plan was 4 miles at 7:00 pace, and I ended with splits of 6:52, 6:57, 6:48, 6:49. And then got to see Star Wars : )
Friday 12/18: I planned to run an easy 6 miles, but my work team ended up doing a short trail run as part of a meeting which was really fun, but ended with me not getting in my full 6 miles, and also being in muddy running clothes for the entire day. Run: 4.5 miles (trail)
Weekly Mileage: 39.4 Miles
Summary: It was an okay week. I checked all the boxes, despite lots of cat drama and a crazy work week (and the pressure of trying to watch all of the star wars movies again before seeing The Force Awakens on opening night), so I am marking the week as a success.
