Mint’s Training Log – 6.23.13 and 6.30.13

As I mentioned in my last training log, I’ve had a very hard time staying on track this season.  The last 2 weeks have been a bit more of the same, but action-packed nonetheless.

Monday-Wednesday were rest days because I had a ton of work to get done before leaving for vacation.  My calves were also inexplicably screaming at me.  I did fit in my arm weights on Tuesday though.

Thursday I got in 7 easy miles before work (9:00 pace) and my arm weights.  My legs felt better, so that was a high point.

Friday we traveled to Jackson, Wyoming.  It was a LONG travel day, but we were all very happy to start our family vacation.

Saturday I got up early while the family slept and logged 9 miles in the National Elk Refuge.  It was an absolutely beautiful run, but was a little hard running at altitude when I am not used to it.  So I took it easy and stopped a couple of times to catch my breath and take in the beautiful sights.

Sunday we hiked up the Grand Teton mountain.  The trail was beautiful and we were working hard.  Round trip we went 6 miles, but the 3 miles up were a lot harder and slower than the 3 miles down!

Monday I went on a run while the boys went fishing.  5 easy miles (8:46 pace).

Tuesday we went mountain biking down the mountain!  It was awesome and fun – until I completely wiped out after a jump.  I fell on my left side HARD.  We actually thought I may have broken my arm at first.  Fortunately, after a few hours and a hot shower, my arm felt okay.

Wednesday we went hiking with llamas!  It was awesome!  We hiked for a couple of hours, then stopped and had lunch and hiked back.  Fortunately it was an easy hike as my shoulder was really sore and my left thigh was screaming at me.

Thursday and Friday were rest days for traveling home and then getting a lot of work done after being out of the office for a week.

Saturday I ran 3.4 very easy miles (9:01) pace.  I didn’t get out until it was already hot and my body was SORE.  My painful thigh began to turn a lovely shade of dark purple.  Yikes.

Sunday I really hoped to log a longish run.  Unfortunately, my leg and groin were killing me and I didn’t make it much passed the mailbox.  My big fall took a lot out of me and unfortunately I need some more time to heal.  I got in a few hours of yard work (I finally conquered those weeds).

Ouch.  I think I’ll stick to running rather than mountain biking.

Here’s hoping next week I get back on track.
